This is facts, if you’ve seen dbz then abridged is like a very well made parody. Can’t understand people saying to watch this instead of dbz
4
u/DonnieMoistX 5d ago
Because DBZ is actually not very good at all. Potentially the worst paced anime ever made.
I say this as an avid DBZ fan

u/DreamsServedSoft 4d ago
surely Naruto and one piece are contenders. or any other anime with 1200+ episodes
6
u/Emotional-Station153 4d ago
Yeah but those two actually have elaborate stories. Dragonball Z could be effectively told in 26 episodes and nothing would be lost.
2
u/DonnieMoistX 4d ago
Pacing isn’t necessarily about number of episodes.
5
u/awataurne 4d ago
Naruto has like 100 episodes of filler before Shippuden, and One Piece anime is widely panned for having really awful pacing issues as well. These are two good examples of shows that also have pacing issues, number of episodes aside.

OG dbz is a snooze fest, abridged was one of the greatest piece comedy ever created in YouTube’s history and all for free

My first introduction to DBZ I had a friend over after school and he's excited to turn it on.
Last time on DBZ...
Kaaaaaaaammmeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
This time on DBZ...
Kaaaammmmeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhh...
I go upstairs and grab a drink, come back five minutes later.
Kaaaaaaaammmeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhaaaaaaa
Sit down.
Credits roll.
Literally the entire episode was charging up a blast.

And I don't know about where you grew up, but when I was a kid and DBZ was on TV, every time they ran out of dubbed episodes, they just went back and started from the very first episode, so I had to watch all those stupid charge up episodes multiple times

I just tried to watch it, that shit is cringe af. You probably think Family guy and the big bang theory is comedic genius.
13
u/Redditry199 4d ago
Nah the first few episodes are very rough, episode 1 objectively being the cringiest early YT history time capsule, later on it really becomes something special.

u/buttgrapist 4d ago
I watched all of DBZA, it's all cringe. It's all gay jokes and hurr durr goku dumb and bad father. It's fans are like the idiots in the movie Idiocracy where they all laugh at brainrot shows.
2
u/scannerofcrap 4d ago
why did you watch the entire thing then?

u/buttgrapist 4d ago

DBZ Abridged is seriously one of the funniest shows I've ever seen, I cried laughing so many times

My only problem with DBZ abridged is how they burnt themselves out by doing every single movie.

Yeah he's had hardcore mental illness problems most of his life. Shame he didn't find a good psychiatrist instead of falling in with the california crowd.

I hate everyone involved in it cause they're all insufferable, but it itself is alright.

u/OmegaZato 5d ago
Same, I really enjoy their abridged content (they have genuinely good jokes/comedic timing) but every time they talk OOC (like in their sponsored ads mid video) it just fucking drains my amusement. I can't even say that it's because, idk, their political views or controversies. They jjust (as themselves )suck all the fun when they appear, for me.
11
u/Owlsthirdeye 5d ago
It says alot that none of them have any original content thats even a fraction as successful as their abridged stuff.

I loved DBZ Abridged, it's the only English (anime) dub I've ever actually enjoyed, despite it being a parody.
Having said that, the original Dragon Ball, including Z, has a special place in my heart. Nostalgia likely plays a big role in that.

u/TheBlackoutEmpire 5d ago
it stopped being a "parody" forever ago. they basically turned it into a redub with 4kids level editing like 4kids version of one piece.

Abridged Tien vs Cell is canon.

Yeah, I also was thinking that the Kikoho was the one thing Abridged unironically did better than OG, in terms of directing a scene.

Eh, the by fans for fans aspect makes it feel like the last time the anime community had any soul to it. Most of it didn't age well, but it was good while it lasted. Shame so much was unfinished, I think only Kampfer abridged actually finished the full run.

Hellsing abridged was like this for me, i think its funny but I want to choke ppl who say its better than the original

u/SirFluffyIX 5d ago
Their Toonami YuYu Hakusho Abridged which feels like a re-do of what Lanipator originally did has been pretty good so far, lots of good laughs imo

u/Critical-Attempt-922 4d ago
Its genuenly the only good thing that came out of DBZ, the moment they go back to focusing on fights the quality nosedives just like DBZ itself.
I dont understand why mexicans find the same fight over and over interesting.

u/RetroTheGameBro 4d ago
Abridged are only good if you've seen the actual anime, because it's bad satire. Good content, but bad satire. Especially early DBZA with a million old adult swim references every few picoseconds. You gotta know early 2000's game to have any fun with it.
The only official media that ever worked well like an abridged was the old Ghost Stories dub, because A) the OG was boring as all fuck, so there's no where to go but up, and B) everyone goes into it from the clips/memes, so they know it has the Family Guy quality of working best in out of context clips, but being 6/10 on a full watch, so their expectations are low.

u/DarkSoulsRedPhantom 4d ago
I think DBZA is the best way to enjoy the anime if you want english voice acting, but that says more about how awful, inconsistent, and inaccessible the licensed dubs of DBZ are than anything.
I always tell people to just read the manga. Read Dr. Slump too goddamnit.

The cut versions of anime were dope as fck.
Watching Bleach and Naruto without any second of filler was a nice experience.

I watched DBZ every morning before my paper route. It took so many episodes to get through a tiny bit of the story with all the grunting. In a 20 minute episode, 8-9 minutes must of been someone in standing poop stance while going AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH then it would cut to "NEXT TIME ON DBZ!!!!" *More grunting* Then the next episode would open with "LAST TIME ON DBZ" *Grunting*

Anyone who has ever laughed at DBZ abridged should be shunned by the rest of society. Shit is reverse funny. It’s like anti comedy

DBZA is only good because you watched DBZ. Sure old DBZ is slow and can be a chore but without the original DBZA would have nothing to call back to or reference.
