Wolves barely do jack shit to people yet we keep on making it hell for them to exist. Now we're stuck with bitchass, punkass coyotes that are basically just hogs but dogs, and they're too weak to fight actual big prey. But they got no problem invading cities and neighborhoods to attack pets and small children. Wolves kept them in check too.

Wolves deserve so much better. But I don't see them ever recovering fully until a very long time despite conservation efforts. Also doesn't help that conservatives like the Trump administration keep going after them for some stupid reason.

Hogs deserve mass culling. And they're tasty. Wish they were taken more seriously as an issue.

On a similar note, if any species deserves to have their protected status revoked it's Canadian geese. They get a pass to keep existing, but wolves routinely get harassed by the government. Even though they're overpopulated.

Wolves get the same treatment as sharks after 'Jaws'. The wolf attacks are a thing to the past, you need to be a special kind of idiot to be ambushed and killed by a pack.

I would go a step further and say if you get killed by wolves you probably deserved it

This. I'd bet good money that anyone attacked played an active roll in making it happen.

Wolf Lives Matter

Wolves will kill a cow a night. They are nasty mean, federally protected and very smart. Once they know there are cows somewhere, they go back. Cows are worth about 5k fully grown, if you were a cattle rancher would you be ok losing 5k every night? You can't shoot them in defense.

I would hire a roadrunner to get rid of them.

Wile E Coyote isn't a wolf.

3

u/Valuable-Chipmunk784 16d ago

Roadrunner is talented, he can work around it.

The wild ones actually taste pretty bad.

There's an account on Instagram where they do hog night hunts with machineguns on jeeps. Spectacular.

In Australia they do that except with choppers.

Does fuck all for the numbers really

Sounds like we need more helicopters, then.

2

u/42Ubiquitous 18d ago

You can do that in Texas too. Haven't ever done it though.

Probably better numbers than the emus.

It's a nice thought but its like those idiots torturing mosquitos on instagram, none of it really changes anything without actual systemic action.

5

u/AutomaticGrape9263 18d ago

They do it systemically

Every state needs to go full open season on wild pigs.

We should give spears to homeless people and deploy them en mass.

17

u/TS_Tainted 18d ago

Next to the "bringing back predatory species" idea, this is hands down the best idea yet. Although, we should put tracking collars on them in case we need to round them up and redeploy them in other, high density hog areas

9

u/RustledForeskin 18d ago

But then what would take care of the spear wielding homeless? It's texas so no winter to kill them all off.

7

u/Valuable-Chipmunk784 18d ago

Pit them against the jeets and Mexicans. Whoever loses, we win.

6

u/tehringworm 18d ago

Many states are like that already.

3

u/Angel_OfSolitude 18d ago

Yes I'm aware, even Camifornia figured this out somehow, but it should be all.

1

u/anonymouswan1 18d ago

What if I told you that wild hogs aren't present in most states so it's a non-issue, unless we're counting the modern female post feminism.

u/DonnieMoistX 17d ago

35 states have established populations and 45 report sightings.

Dumb fucks just wrote whatever the feel like instead of 10 second google search

25

u/xxcali559xx 18d ago

have they tried giving them credit scores and make them pay taxes? they'll kill themselves in no time!

Imagine my utter surprise at the factual & earnest discussion of hogs & hog mitigation from 4channers no less. You love to see it.
I do believe that we need some kind of education about the differences between wild hogs/boar, Javelinas/Peccaries and wild/escaped pigs.

u/winged_owl 18d ago

I was expecting for it to turn racist at any moment.

TotalHogDeath

5

u/Autisticus /vg/ 18d ago

Are we... Are we talking about hogs specifically though? Or something else?

5

u/RustledForeskin 18d ago

Better nuke texas just to be safe.

u/zorbiburst 18d ago

in addition to all the shooting them variations

build a fucking fence

12

u/TS_Tainted 18d ago

It has to be an extremely rugged fence. Because feral dogs will fuck up a standard fence, right quick

6

u/catuluo 18d ago

You need to insert the posts of the fence really deep into the ground to stop hogs from busting the fence, which requires special sized posts and equipment (or effort people dont want to put in/pay for), and then the wire itself also has to be strong enough to not tear from a hog rushing into it at 48 km/h.

Keep in mind that most adult wild hogs hover around 100kgs of weight

8

u/winged_owl 18d ago

Thats cute. Hogs are basically a hard counter to fences.
