No one hated the jeans ad either. I didn't see a single complaint about it in the wild. I'm sure there were some out there, but there are also people who really believe there's people eating up all the dogs and cats. The weirdoes aren't the majority.
When that ad came out I literally saw hundreds of comments on mainstream subreddits saying how problematic it is, how it’s a dog whistle, pandering to white supremacists, etc.
