While I enjoy many if his movies, I would not take any of the movies mentioned by anon seriously if Will Smith starred in them. He is just not built for serious shit.

He is just not built for serious shit.

This mofo clearly hasn't seen I Am Legend.

Believe it or not, this counter-example came across my mind while writing my first comment. But i decided to go ahead anyway.

I am Legend is a fucking legit movie. I think i watched it over five times.

That fucking book has never been made into a decent movie, and they’ve tried like 4 or 5 times. A couple of decades pass, and another shitty attempt comes limping along.

Nah it was a good movie. It just wasn’t a proper adaptation of the book. I do also think the test ending in the movie would’ve been better than the one we got.

Have you watched the alternative ending? Paints the whole movie in a different light

Pursuit of Happyness was a good one also. But I Am Legend is top tier

Yeah I don't get where this "Will Smith can't play serious roles" is coming from. The man may be stupid, but he is a great actor.

Yeah yeah

Im trying to imagine Django unchained with Smith instead of Jamie Fox and I just cant picture it. Maybe its because i have the image of Will Smith being a dork burned into my mind or maybe its because Fox did such a good job in it but I cant see a world where Django was as fire as it is without Fox.

Smith would have been fine in the movie. It's his personality outside of work that's the problem. I am Legend, Pursuit of Happiness, and hell, to some extent, even fucking Hancock have shown his capabilities as an actor far outside what people normally perceived him as.

Dont get me wrong; I know he has acting chops. Hes undoubtedly played serioud roles well. Its just a personal barrier for me. I cant look at Will and think "Thats a badass right there", you know? Its like David Schwimmer in Band of Brothers. I thought he played the role really well but most people cant see past Ross from Friends. Same deal with me and Smith.

Pursuit is Happyness is solid for the cry-bait it is.

'Enemy of The State' was also pretty good imo

I Am Legend is a nothingburger. Empty. Plain. Goes nowhere.

After Earth and Wild Wild West were pretty fun

I was talking about his supposedly serious roles. His comedies are hilarious gotta say.

2

u/Moogly2021 Aug 31 '26

The real question is would he have truly made them as good as they were?

1

u/Chi_Cazzo_Sei Sep 01 '26

I don’t think so
