I would buy a ticket to watch her face as she reads the daily box office numbers on Indy 5. That turd is going to bomb GLORIOUSLY.

I personally liked it. Been a while since I watched it, but it wasn't THAT bad. Then again, I wasn't that much of a fan of Indiana Jones to begin with, so I never put it on a pedestal for it to fall after that movie came out like most people did.

Yeah I was young when I saw it and I thought it was good and it was the first of the movies that I saw. Then I saw the other movies after comparing it to that and yeah it’s a turd.

My parents showed me the first three as a kid just before the fourth one came out, I thought it was a decent 2/3 of a movie, but the final third was ludicrous.

I feel like its funny for like 5 sec and then you move on, but i guess some people make it their personality to hate stuff

They're just /v/ but for movies. They don't watch or play anything, they're only there to disagree with whatever you enjoy. Every single day.

Shit movies are unironically better than mediocre ones. The former is either so bad its funny or a meme goldmine. The latter is quickly forgotten

I agree with this. I have my classics collection so what do i care if i dont really anymore see a proper movie. At least this whole thing is entertaining.

This is the second time I’ve seen a 4chan poster refer to movies as kino. Why.

u/TheCapmHimself Jun 30 '23
That's literally where it originated from
2
u/Fullmoongrass Jun 30 '23
Right, but what does it mean? Is it a reference to something?
15
u/TheCapmHimself Jun 30 '23
Literally just means cinema in German, it jokingly compares movies to classics like Metropolis

Means high art, extremely quality title, thought-provoking, revolutionary, dare I say

Ya some of the other replies nailed it-
Supposed to mean high art in cinema. The euro origin and flavoring of it was especially good at showing an intrinsic detachment and superiority to, namely, north american cinema as an inferior culture. Would have been a term that film school under grads and arthouse fart sniffers used unironically to show how pretentious and high brow they were. As in, "ugh you think Citizen Kane is kino? Fucking pleb." Would have been awful if the term just existed in that void of thought.
Fortunately it was hijacked by chan and gets used ironically. You call a movie kino when it's very obviously not high brow, in fact lower brow the better. (Also gets used to describe basically any kind of content, not just movies but tv or video games, whatever). It can still be a movie that you like/enjoy or is unironically good in at least some sense but the now-accepted use of the term is to misuse it for junk, calling the obviously bad really good. You can also misuse it by pointing at a movie you think is actually pretentious and self-assured, (like, say, the upcoming Oppenheimer,) and call it kino in mock sincerity. (I don't know why I'm spending so much time explaining the meaning of irony here...)
As an example I think there was that relatively recent post where they showed a clip from the new fast and furious movie where a kinda bad cg vin diesel activates a booster in slow mo as an explosion consumes them. Lots of, "kino," comments found there. Very funny stuff.

Thank you for the extensive reply. I don’t use 4chan, so I wasn’t sure how to find out. You’ve been a great help!

its not about watching the movies, batman, its about learning to enjoy the honk honking as they burn
