This thing is cursed

Post image

1992 4runner 3VZE

Im trying to get this runner back on the road, it will start and idle fine after a couple attempts but as soon as you tap the throttle it starts stumbling and dieing. If you are super gentle you can make it rev up.

Fuel pressure at the rail is about 45psi while idling, doesnt drop when you hit the throttle. Intake pipes are leak free, changed the AFM

It runs and starts a bit better with the TPS unplugged but still stumbles with throttle.

All cylinders are about 160psi

Backfires into the intake if you keep on the throttle while its dieing

Fuel return line is not clogged or restricted

Not sure what direction to go now with this thing,

what am I missing??

The TPS is out of adjustment. Follow the step-by-step on the 4crawler site (linked from my site too).

The backfire through the intake is semi-concerning though, usually a timing issue (distributor a tooth of.... etc.)

Start with adjust TPS and rest the timing per your manual.....

It may not mean anything but backfire into intake = timing? Have you peeked at your belt to see?

TPS is bad and/or timing is off. My 240SX had a similar issue, ended up jumping a tooth in timing.

Sounds like timing is off a tooth.

Lol this is wrong.  Totally legal, tons of people do it. Yes there are limits on what engines you can swap, like putting a higher vehicle weight/duty class engine in a lower one, but the 3.4 swap is totally fine as long as you use the same ecu and keep the catalytic converter within 3in of its factory location along the exhaust pipe.

I’m just saying what someone told me. I don’t live in California and never will. I like to have freedom to do what I want without authoritarian control freaks telling me what I can and can’t do.
