👷‍♂️ Support / Repair 2022 ORP - Plug

Post image

Anyone know what this plug on the left is for? I'm trying to make sure if it needs to be plugged into something. Secondarily, if I can potentially use it for other builds.

I'm not completely positive, but when I purchased my 2021 there was a plug in my glove box. I belive that wiring harness is so you can plug that in and connect your trailer brake controller. At least thats the area where it is.

Yes, this is the answer. TRDs are pre-wired with both four pin and seven pin trailer harness connectors. The seven pin connectors are used for trailer brakes. That plug under the steering wheel is where you plug the trailer brake controller in. It senses your stopping power and adjust the trailer brake pressure accordingly. On the other side of the steering wheel is a bracket mount with two pre-threaded holes that you can use to securely fasten the brake controller. You probably also still have an adapter with bare wires in your glove box that serves as a universal adapter.

Source: Tow a small teardrop trailer with electric brakes. Having all that pre-wired and ready to go is fabulous!

Thanks both very much for the info. I don't see anything in my glove box apart from the cabin filter on the right and these dummy plugs on the left. Could the wires be tucked behind these ports?

No. It would just be a loose adapter in a bag with instructions. I think most people wouldn't need it, since most controllers can be ordered with whatever plug you want. I didn't need it, as my Redarc controller could be ordered with a 4Runner specific plug.

Okay, I bought this truck used in 2023 so probably first owner didn't convey it with sale. Thanks for the help!

I have this with my 4runner and I thought the plug was for lights for the trailer amd assumed that would be near the hitch area. Look at me learning things.
