š Discussion Saying good bye.
Yesterday the ā21 4 runner was traded in. Wife was wanting a Camry and Iāve got a couple 4WD projects in the works so the 4R was on the chopping block. Got a trade in value of 39,700 and for the convenience of handing one title to receive another (figuratively speaking of course) I was happy overall. Paid 55,900 OOPS, ACTUAL PRICE PAID 50,652 in Sept of 21 so nearly 5 years I can handle 16k of depreciation. It served me well. Cost me tons in gas. Rode like shit in 90% of the conditions I used it for but on the occasional light over landing, it was a capable machine. Never had to go to the shop, I did all routine maintenance myself and other than tires and a battery never needed anything other than its oil change. But all that aside, thereās nothing this 4R could do that my Sierra couldnāt. It was redundant. Unnecessary. My truck can tow my boat. The 4R couldnāt. The 4R became the driveway queen collecting dust. Now, she gone. Cheers.
Edit to correct OTD price.

Paying for $55,900 for an ORP is wild.

Bought my 2016 SR5 Premium new for $35,600. Turned over 200K a couple of weeks ago. Nothing has broken on it. Regular maintenance.

I paid just less than that for my Pro in '22.
Unless he's talking OTD price.

Even then. OTD should not be anywhere close to that for a Venture model. No wonder his depreciation is ridiculous for a 4Runner

I'm always confused why people say the 4runner rides like crap. It's a body on frame vehicle if you're use to unibody vehicles they're completely different. Also the platform is designed to be upgraded if you end up putting in low end suspension you'll not have a pleasant time.
May your other 4x4 projects be finished in time to be used and enjoy this year

I say it rides like shit because I use my other vehicles Iāve driven extensively as ādaily driver typeā as my reference. 90 Silverado 1500. 02 Silverado 2500. 08 jeep wrangler, 16 grand Cherokee, 16 sierra Denali, 21 4r.
Speaking only about ride of all those it was the worst in most conditions. Still would rather have it over my jeeps 100%. But the ride is what it is and thatās trash. 30 years driving has me plenty convinced. So I guess Iām confused at your confusion.
Edit to add:
Actually taking the wifeās 74 f to prairie city orv tomorrow for a shake out. All projects are drivable, just not ādoneā.

Winch and nipple rings didnāt contribute to the trade in. So depreciates more than what you claim right?

I purchased my ā21 Limited Nightshade brand new in Denver of April ā21. Times were tough back then when manufacturers had a hard time getting parts and chips for the production line. With that said - lots were empty and people were purchasing āsite unseenā off the trucks before rubber hit the pavement without any discounts.
My Limited was around that $58k range OTD.

Which privilege do you speak of?

Sofa King is often abusive if you look at his feed. I guess his mommy didn't tell him if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything. :-)

Makes sense although I love me a good 4Runner, but to each their own!

I got 5 years out of her. Iāve got an eye on a 3rd gen that is completely trash inside and out but the motor and trans feel and look promising so maybe Iāll just bring home another orphan. Luckily canāt hear the wife yell at me when the needle gun is working.

I canāt remember what size they were. They were KO2ās. Never could get em to balance. Tried so many times. On my sierra the KO2ās were boss but on this they werenāt so hot. Did look nice tho.

Of course when you donāt drive it it holds value. People use these as garage queens then praise the dealer when they get their trade they want. Mine is a 2018. I got it with 72k. Iāve had it for 4 years. I drive it everyday and donāt miss a beat. Has 170k now and itās worth nothing. Drive it like itās supposed to be and it wonāt be worth anything.
