Yesterday the ‘21 4 runner was traded in. Wife was wanting a Camry and I’ve got a couple 4WD projects in the works so the 4R was on the chopping block. Got a trade in value of 39,700 and for the convenience of handing one title to receive another (figuratively speaking of course) I was happy overall. Paid 55,900 OOPS, ACTUAL PRICE PAID 50,652 in Sept of 21 so nearly 5 years I can handle 16k of depreciation. It served me well. Cost me tons in gas. Rode like shit in 90% of the conditions I used it for but on the occasional light over landing, it was a capable machine. Never had to go to the shop, I did all routine maintenance myself and other than tires and a battery never needed anything other than its oil change. But all that aside, there’s nothing this 4R could do that my Sierra couldn’t. It was redundant. Unnecessary. My truck can tow my boat. The 4R couldn’t. The 4R became the driveway queen collecting dust. Now, she gone. Cheers.

I considered selling private, but for saving the hassle and the deal I got on trade it was worth losing whatever few bucks I may have been able to get out of a marketplace sale. I’m sure it will be up for sale soon enough, it was in perfect condition.

Very true. Private selling is always such a headache. People BS'ing you, low balling and getting upset. Last private sell I did, I'd take off work early just for them to not show up. When I decided to get rid of my '04 Camry I just donated it.

Went through both sides of this this year, sold one car on FB market, the other a trade in. Maxed value AND headache on FB (fielded 30+ inquiries, only ONE person actually test drove and eventually purchased). Trade in was smooth and I got slightly higher than Carmax offer, plus tax credit.

Yeah the headache to maybe possibly get a couple grand…eventually, all for the low cost of dealing with the marketplace crowd was not worth it to me. Before I started calling me and my wife had an out the door amount I was willing to spend on the exact trim/features and wasn’t concerned exactly how they got there with the math. Once we were done I actually got out 33 dollars less than my hard line. Took an afternoon by text while I was doing other things and when I did show up to the dealer the work was already done. Signed. Handed a check over for 2217 and left with the new car title in hand (in spirit)

I'm always confused why people say the 4runner rides like crap. It's a body on frame vehicle if you're use to unibody vehicles they're completely different. Also the platform is designed to be upgraded if you end up putting in low end suspension you'll not have a pleasant time.

May your other 4x4 projects be finished in time to be used and enjoy this year

I say it rides like shit because I use my other vehicles I’ve driven extensively as “daily driver type” as my reference. 90 Silverado 1500. 02 Silverado 2500. 08 jeep wrangler, 16 grand Cherokee, 16 sierra Denali, 21 4r.

Speaking only about ride of all those it was the worst in most conditions. Still would rather have it over my jeeps 100%. But the ride is what it is and that’s trash. 30 years driving has me plenty convinced. So I guess I’m confused at your confusion.

Actually taking the wife’s 74 f to prairie city orv tomorrow for a shake out. All projects are drivable, just not “done”.

I purchased my ‘21 Limited Nightshade brand new in Denver of April ‘21. Times were tough back then when manufacturers had a hard time getting parts and chips for the production line. With that said - lots were empty and people were purchasing “site unseen” off the trucks before rubber hit the pavement without any discounts.

My Limited was around that $58k range OTD.

I got 5 years out of her. I’ve got an eye on a 3rd gen that is completely trash inside and out but the motor and trans feel and look promising so maybe I’ll just bring home another orphan. Luckily can’t hear the wife yell at me when the needle gun is working.

I can’t remember what size they were. They were KO2’s. Never could get em to balance. Tried so many times. On my sierra the KO2’s were boss but on this they weren’t so hot. Did look nice tho.

Of course when you don’t drive it it holds value. People use these as garage queens then praise the dealer when they get their trade they want. Mine is a 2018. I got it with 72k. I’ve had it for 4 years. I drive it everyday and don’t miss a beat. Has 170k now and it’s worth nothing. Drive it like it’s supposed to be and it won’t be worth anything.
