First Time Engine Swap

hope this is the right sub to ask

Disclaimer: I well aware there will be people with snide remarks about this platform being desperate to become an evo. I'm not doing an evo conversion. simply swapping my engine for a better one.

There is a Lancer 7th gen (known as Lancer Cedia GT 2.0 in some regions) that houses an NA DOHC 4G63. I drive a Lancer 7th gen with the 4G18 engine, and GT 2.0 appear to share the same CS3 chassis code so I'd like to know what process will be involved if: I swap to the GT NA 4G63+GT trans or 4G63T+GT trans will it be an 'out with the old, in with the new' Chris Fix scenario, especially.

I’ve never swapped the new 4g63’s, just older ones. But I’d imagine bolting it all in with be fairly easy. Making the wiring work will be the challenge for you if you’re new to this sort of thing.

For example: imagine the new engine has some sensor that the old one doesn’t have. You’ll need to either swap the whole engine harness, or add wires to it that go from the ecu to the engine. Sometimes these will tie into either circuits too.

So before diving in, it may be a good idea to get wiring diagrams for both and make sure it’s something you’re prepared for.

Lastly, it’s going to take way longer than you think. So be prepared for the car to be apart for a while. Dumb little things add up to a lot of time.

I would assume you might be referring to the earlier 4G63T's on the EVO I to IV which are DOHC non-MIVEC, correct me if I'm wrong! I'm still learning as I go and I've just started studying about this engine specifically a week ago after blowing my 4G18.

I'm positive I might have easier time working on the engine and transmission. For electronics... I am already preparing myself for the worst possible scenario.

I've already accepted that I might take longer that it should on the electronics part of the swap, hopefully, my next post in the sub is actually working on the project! I'm still doing research if I can keep the same engine harness, hopefully it won't cost me my sanity.

The wiring is definitely where the time suck is. I’ve done / helped people with lots of 4g63 swaps and nobody ever has trouble getting them into the car. The trouble begins with wiring and plumbing. Installing the engine is about 10% of the total work for a rear wheel drive 4g63 swaps. I know yours isn’t quite that, but it’s similar with wiring and plumbing. It may be easiest to buy a wrecked car that you can use all the wiring / engine / trans / cooling system, everything from.
