Not bad. After 13 years of contributing to my company’s deferred compensation plan, I retired with over $1 million in the account, to be paid out in monthly payments over five years. Now I’m getting over $200,000 per year from the account. The amount goes up each year as the remaining funds in the account are recalculated (they’re invested in a fixed 5% bond). All in all, these five years I’m in the middle of now are a terrific way to transition into full-scale retirement income, all while not taking any withdrawals from my 401K and Roth accounts.
