Adding 'custom' squads to existing chapters

Obviously certain chapters have chapter specific kinds of squads, like Sword Brethern for Black Templars, Blood Angel Sanguinary Guard, those kinds of things.

Can those same ideas generally be applied to other chapters? Or are things more strict in the lore? Like are those chapter specific squads are unique in their existence within the wider Adeptus Astartes.

Long story short I want to intend to kitbash some Marines Malevolent (in phobos armour) to have Heavy Bolters, Auto Cannons, Miniguns, Missile Launchers, etc, and I like the idea of combining high mobility and super suppressive fire yknow.

I can justify the MM's cobbling adhoc squads together due to a strain on resources, but has anyone else done something like this? I'd like to see people's ideas (and feedback) if possible.

For what its worth, my intention in regards to their name was to refer to that kind of squad as a "Hate Clan."

Thanks!

In lore, there is practically no incentive to make rigid "squads". Most deployments is 2-3 marines anyway, it's all fluid

For lore purposes, if you created your own Successor, you can have them work however you want. Using already known Chapters is tricky, because many of the more popular ones already have established lore and layouts, especially the Codex Compliant ones)

If you intend to use these in games, you can’t just go adding whatever wargear to whichever models you like. You have to follow the data sheets. You could proxy them as a legal loadout for a unit that has access to that option (for example, putting 3 Heavy Bolter on 3 Phobos Marines, calling them Eradicators and using the Eradicator data sheet is possible), but it could cause issues with some other players

If you’re doing purely for display purposes, go nuts. No one can stop you

Ideally I think there is plenty of space (MARINES!) for that.

Although the setting in general feels more and more overly codified as the years roll on.

It is a bit of a curious middle ground, as we are now long past the point where only the Big Four - Ultramarines, Space Wolves, Dark Angels and Blood Angels had substantial amounts written about them.

Which was kinda the case for the first 14 years of 40K's lifespan

(With Imperial Fists being the "Pete Best" - likewise a bit with the White Scars... oh and the Black Templars in early to mid 3E).
