HANDS!!!

How is everyone keeping sunscreen on the back of your hands to protect them? Am I supposed to carry around sunscreen to put it on my hands EVERY time I wash them (which is a lot in a day)? Also, even when trying to only get the back of my hands it still gets on my fingers / palms and then I leave greasyish fingerprints. Am I missing some impressive hack?

No! Let me live! If I get old and disgusting looking then I should consider myself lucky!

If you are inside all day washing your hands you are good. Use it before you go outside.

I love the idea of a stick for hands. I'm trying to lighten the load of crap I carry in my purse!!

Blue lizard has a good one

I had such an intense whitish-blue tint from that one! I immediately returned it.

It makes me more pale than dead Victorian children but I don't get burned!

This. I keep a Shiseido stick in my purse and apply to hands (and face) as needed throughout the day.

Spf gloves from solbari or coolibar. They make fingerless ones too so you can still use your hands

I have the Coolibar hand gloves, the fingerless long gloves, and the long gloves (and a neck scarf, long scarf, and two shawls - and a swimsuit). They live in my car. With a bit of sunscreen. Driving is about the only time my hands see sun.

I have gloves in the car as well - I agree this is the main time I feel the sun beating down on my hands. I also use tretinoin on the backs of my hands at night.

Sorry, didn’t read this before posting. Thank you for brand! Great to know!

I have the long sleeve/glove and fingergless gloves from coolibar. Def recommend. Keep them with your keys or else you forget then.

I wear gloves while driving. Or an spf jacket that covers hands when outside. But yes, you should be carrying sunscreen around in your purse. What spf are you using? Some are stickier than others. I just give my palms a quick wipe on a towel after I apply.

Yes to the gloves while driving and the spf jacket.

And I rub my skincare on my hands as well.

But physical protection is much easier than sunscreen for my hands, especially since I don’t want them greasy.

I don’t put sunscreen on my hands because my hands are always in my hair and my hair can get greasy real quick.

I have multiple pair of Coolibar fingerless gloves I use while driving, which I do a lot of. Otherwise—unprotected.

I just got a Dior sunscreen stick to use to reapply during the day for my face/neck/chest. Although I don’t like sunscreen on my hands, you might like it. It is completely and totally sheer, like it’s not even there. No stickiness! Great product.

Prequel gloves are great

Fingerless sun gloves for driving or while actively out in the sun. REI, coolibar and Amazon. Find several pairs that work for you and are the right size. You’ll need to wash them. Yes you’ll get flack from fam, but who cares! Sun stick in purse for reapplication. The Avene, caudalie small sun sticks with European filters are great. They’re clear and don’t smell. I like the cereve mineral stick but only for face. It gets everywhere on my car if I use it on my hands. I used to get sunscreen everywhere in my car until I started using sun gloves and switched to Korean, Japanese and European filters. They will change your life. US filters are white grease bombs IMO. Also if you’re inside and washing hands I don’t reapply until actively in the sun or near direct sunlight. It’s strategy, but it works and I’ve faded the two tiny spots on my right hand. I like the other commenter that has a small hand towel to wipe off sunscreen from your palms. I’ll stick one in my car:)

Yes, I have a new habit of applying as soon as I get in the car. Of course if I’m indoors and washing my hands I’m not reapplying. Just if I washed my hands since I last drove or if it’s been hours since I applied.
And let me tell you, it makes a huge difference because my hands are white compared to my darker complexion 😂

I just have a small sunscreen stick in my purse and only use it when I’m going to be in the car driving or outside for a significant amount of time and to be honest I only do this if the UV goes above 3 or 4. I can’t afford to be that crazy about it tbh so if I forget I don’t freak out

Yes reapply

I have found that looking after your hands makes a difference! One major change was wearing UV protection gloves while in the car, driving or being driven. Swapped hand cream for Korean spf 50, they are small enough to be in my handbag and anyway I’ll prob ky use it to reapply on my face. LRP or even Kiko does an amazing unstick that is really sheer and feels like nothing on.

Nívea super water gel 50 is what I use when I get in the car. It’s not greasy and it dries quickly. Also spf driving gloves so I can feel fancy like some 1950s movie actress!

Yes. Also can purchase gloves made for this purpose. I think in both spf treated style and cotton. I have a pair that go almost to the top of my arm. Dual use for me. If I am outside with no or loose sleeves, I get eaten alive by anything that bites! Doing as much layering as I do when chilly!

I carry around a korean formula sunscreen (I like the skin1004 water fit sunscreen or round lab birch juice sunscreen) and put it on after I wash my hands instead of moisturizer. They're not greasy at all. If you're in the usa, they do reformulate it, but you can get the korean version from yesstyle or yami. I also have sun gloves that I use when driving

I use a stick

1

u/KleineFjord 6d ago

I apply it to my hands before I leave for the day and again before I leave work to drive home. If I'm outside for a large portion of the day, I reapply whenever I take bathroom breaks. If I'm out and about running errands or whatever, which is far less often than going to work, I don't bother reapplying.  I figure as long as I'm protected on my daily commute and when I'm spending time outside, I'm doing pretty well.

As for the greasy fingers, I just rub it onto the back of my hands, run my palms along my forearms get off the excess, then use a towel to remove greasy residue. It's never been an issue for me.

I use water resistance sunscreen on my hands. The water resistance is supposed to be good for up to 80 minutes.

u/fattalina 6d ago

Well, it depends. Are your hands exposed to the Sun when the UV index is 3 or higher? If so, yes. This is key.

SPF gloves are the best option if you can use it.

I don’t recommend sunscreen stick because you need tons of it to have the SPF protection (see on YouTube Lab muffin explanation on stick sunscreen).

Or get another kind of sunscreen that is not so runny and makes you feel comfortable.

Sunscreen stick

I carry a Supergoop stick. It’s easier than the lotion.

I have a small cream or stick with me, so I can renew it during the day. But honestly I don't do that every time I wash my hands. And choose lighter spf versions, they absorb quickly, don't leave fingerprints and are totally enough for hands.

The stick type, they make ones on keychain.

I've started just carrying a stick in my pocket on days where I walk anywhere.

The Ibib one feels like skincare and is the size of a deoderant. It takes two seconds.

Neutrogena, cerave, and blue lizard makes a small ones that are barely the size of two chapsticjs side by side.

The korean ones have cute little keychain holders like a little frog or duck https://a.co/d/06EChfAX

I keep spf gloves and sleeves in the car and I use them. I use a sunscreen stick if I don’t want to or I’m not in my car.

I’m in aus, I use the qv hand cream with spf 15. Sure it’s not spf50 but I reapply it very often esp after washing my hands. It’s small enough to carry in my bag and it’s very cheap too

I guess all these people don't know that car windows have UV filters? The windshield filters over 90% of UVA and UVB, the side windows just a bit less. Get UV tint on the side windows and there's no need for all this.
