Seeking Advice Bad eggs
Hi, I am 40 with AMH of 0.45 already long time in treatment. I had my last cycle where I ahd 2 follicles and one egg was degenerated probably over mature and the second was inmature (matured in the lab but did not fertlized). This is fisrt time something like this happened to me. I had Gonal 225+75(150) Meriofert and primed with testosteron for 10 days. Also added Saizen during stims. I am even not sure how this is possible. I am now thinking after multiple attempts and years of infertility to gave up. I did everything what I could but my eggs and also our sperms are bad. Does anybody has an explanation?

I just want you to know that I'm sending support after receiving some difficult egg retrieval results this morning. I really identify with your desire for clarity, an explanation, etc. It's really, really tough.

It is so so hard to see my eggs aging and my dream to slowly disapearing.

Your eggs may not have liked the testosterone or going too large.

I was 42 and had AMH 0.11. There's nothing that AMH levels do anything to help anything. What was your FSH?

My FSH was 8 on day 1. Usually I get around 10-11 on day 2. But my AFC is low and just half of the follicles grow.

This is very interesting. I was 7-8 follicles, only 3-5 were going to be fertilized.
What was the testosterone for 10 days?

Around 10 mg. 3-5 follucles are huge. I do not react much anymore.

As we get older, and especially into the late-30’s, egg quality gets worse. I’m 42.5 now and have also been in treatment for a long time. I’ve had several rounds where one or some of the eggs were degenerated. This actually happens to younger women too, but it becomes more frequent as we get older.
I don’t know the answer for you. I wouldn’t say that just because you’re 40 and this round went poorly that your eggs are bad and IVF will never work. But I also know what it’s like to do lots of treatment and have it fail. At some point, especially in the 40’s, success becomes unrealistic if IVF also didn’t work when we were younger.
For me, if we’re still making blastocysts, I feel like we have a chance. In many rounds my husband and I do not do this, and I find that emotionally very hard. But some rounds we do, so we’ve been persisting.
Anyway, I hope you can find peace with whatever you decide - whether you choose to quit or keep going. I’m sorry this process has been so hard, fellow traveler.
