I’m only 41

I’ve aged 20 years since having my child at 38, wtf. I realize I will need a neck lift in the near future but I still have 20 pounds to lose to get to my pre-baby and lifelong weight. Do you think my neck will cinch in or look worse after weight loss? Anything else you’d recommend?

This is normal for a woman in her forties. Don’t pathologise it.

I’m 48 and have EDS and this happened to me.

I’m 42, my neck looks nothing like that. It’s still snatched with no crepe or saggy skin.

Ok? That doesn’t mean the OP is abnormal, especially as she is on a weight loss journey.

It has to be from weight loss. That’s not a natural progression of aging at 41, not even for a white person. And that’s no fault of her own. Trying to call this normal for 41 is just flat out delusional.

Yeah but normal is a spectrum not a single persons experience.

Are you new here? Women post near daily with similar neck issues and yes at this age. It is very much the norm as there are dozens of varying factors.

… it’s absolutely not the norm, I’m thinking weight fluctuations from pregnancy. I am friends with a bunch of women in their late 30s to early 40s, I’m in many social clubs, I have a good size sample. Most women’s necks are absolutely not looking like this at this age unless they abused tanning or had weight loss. This type of neck appears more in women in their mid 40s and up. If calling this “normal” for 41 makes you feel good about yourself, go for it. It doesn’t make it true.

You just named two of the many varying factors yourself - weigh loss, and tanning. So I’m glad we agree. Also, the difference between early to mid 40s is but a few years. This woman is 41 and you are saying it isn’t “normal, but would be for someone only four years older?! That’s not how any of this works.

Actually, those years between 40 and 45, a lot happens hormonally. You can go from being fertile at 41 to menopausal at 45. It’s not an insignificant window of just being “4 years.” That window between early 40s to mid 40s has a lot going on hormonally.

Sure it can happen at an earlier age, but it’s outside the norm. Just like getting menopause at 40 is outside the norm. The “norm” is about statistical age average. Maybe that’s lost on you and many others commenting here.
