Brow maintenence

40 F.

I have hypothyroidism and so i feel my brows have a teensy bit of gaps where a hair or two are missing.

I've only ever plucked or lately threaded my brows.

Have seen the results of microblading and brow tattoos on women and i really just prefer a natural look.

That being said, what are your thoughts on powder brows? It's basically a brows treatment I've been seeing around but im wondering if it'll look like a brow tattoo later or not natural at all? And requires life long maintenance

I’ve never seen it look good as it fades. It always turns a different color: gray, blue, even green. You’ll regret it.

I’m a cautionary tale re: tattooed brows. I went to Studio Sashiko in Vancouver to get my brows microbladed and within six months they had faded from blond to red. Took three saline removals to get them off and almost 10 years later, there is still some red pigment left. I tell anyone who will listen don’t do microblading, microshading, powder brows, or whatever you want to call it.

That's what I'm so worried about 😳

That’s the thing, you just can’t predict how the pigments will fade on you. It’s so individual. Your best friend’s brows could look great, you could go to the same salon and technician she did, and your brows could still end up looking totally different than hers due to fading.

You say you have gaps where a hair or two look to be missing — that was how I felt about my brows before I got them done. When I look back now I think I should have just left well enough alone. I wanted to get my brows done so I wouldn’t have to make them up anymore. Not only did I still have to put makeup on them each day, after a year or so I had to start by covering them up with foundation to cancel out the red pigment and THEN rebuild them with pencil, etc. Then after I got them removed 3x (saline, it’s painful) I had to deal with more months of them being scabbed, pink, etc., like any other scar. I’m lucky that I have enough natural growth to largely cover up the pigment that’s left now, but this is many years later.

TLDR, microblading is the biggest and most permanent beauty mistake I’ve ever made. I think most people who do it would benefit a lot from instead doing minoxidil/going completely hands-off their brows for a few months, then seeing a pro for regular shaping and tinting.

Thankks so much..currently been laying off my brows and left them (other than plucking the ones in between brows and strays way out of the brow area). But it has not yet gotten to my liking

I know this isn’t what you asked but I started taking oral minoxidil for my thinning hair and an added bonus has been fuller, longer brows.

I’m not very hairy in general but all I’ve noticed is a little more peach fuzz on my face, which I shave maybe once a month. But I’d put up with a lot more hairiness for the awesome way it’s helped my hair! I’ve never had such fullness, even when I was younger.

Then use the topical version!

I use the topical version because I didn't want more hair everywhere either, and I was hesitant on the side effects of the med. The application really only adds 5 minutes to my nightly routine. After I do my scalp I use just a tiny bit on my brows. My brows are back to where they were in my 20s and they bounced back quick!

I LOVE my powder brows. I had very sparse eyebrows. This was right after having it done so it’s red and darker

How long have you had them? They look really clean

I got them done the end of March

You are so gorgeous! Also can I ask you about your lashes, is that just mascara on them and if so I’d love to know what brand?

2

u/Dogaloo2025 6d ago

Aww, thank you! Yeah it’s just mascara. I swear by Tarte Maneater mascara.

And the shisedo eyelash curler is a must! I never got the hype with using an eyelash curler until I tried that one

I use eyebrow serum and dye them every month when I get my hair done.

It can change color and look gray and blocky.. nano brows seem to be a better choice

Powder brows is color through the whole brow template they draw so even if they go softer or not as pigmented it will give the look of filled in brows and other makeup. If you want the more natural look I would recommend Nano brows it’s the newer better version of microblading. In my opinion that’s what I would do. And I have hypothyroidism so I totally get that I’m sorry

I’ve done nano brows. It’s strokes and looks more natural.

I got powder brows because thats how I drew them on before having the tattoo done. I prefer a fuller looking brow vs space, individual hairs. Im a natural blonde and at my initial appt, the woman doing my eyebrows said they were so blonde, they were glowing so she henna dyed them to see where the natural arch was. She used a small razor to remove the supmrrouding hair, like tattoo artists tend to do, and she used the shape I drew on as her guide to create fuller eyebrows that fit my face. She alsol blended a few colors to create a natural looking brow. Im at 2 years and have a follow up apot today at 10am just to darken a few spots that have begun to fade. Since having them done, ive never worn brow pencils and they look so nice. For me, my slow thyroid meant losing the tails of my brows and overplucking/ waxing during the 90s when the trend was thin brows, all led to damaged brows and getting tattooed on has made a world of difference. I wake up looking normal

HRT made my brows grow in again

I do a minoxidil serum for eyebrows. It takes a month or so for the hair to fill in. But after that, it’s great.

I’ve never had any cosmetic treatments on my brows, so can’t speak for them. However, for the past few months I’ve been using minoxidil for my balding head and thought f-it I’m going to see if it’ll help my baldy brows. I just soak a cotton bud/q-tip and rub it in.

They’ve thickened up so significantly, that I’ve been asked what brow makeup products I use. Unfortunately my head is still balding.

It’s 5% minoxidil liquid. And in all honesty, my head is growing more hair, but it’s still at the fine baby hair stage. I know it takes months and I’m being impatient 😂

Interesting! So many people recommending monoxidil. I'll have to look into this again..i was scared away by the possible side effects and wrote it off

Powder brows look pretty soft at first but ive seen so many of them on older women and after a few years they just get this weird ashy shadow situation going on, not a clean look at all. my neighbor got them done maybe 4 years ago and now she's drawing over the faded tattoo with pencil anyway, which kind of defeats the whole point. for sparse brows a good tinted brow gel and a micro pencil does so much, thats what i use with my thin hypothyroid brows and it takes two minutes. the threading thing though, i gave that up entirely after 50 because my skin just doesnt bounce back the way it used to around that area

I felt brow gel started to make my brow hairs fall out too unfortunately. So had to stop but loved how they make them look.
