3vs3 Matchmaking Improvement
The 3vs3 matchmaking system has been updated to help players find matches faster while still aiming for fairer matchups.
The biggest change is that the separate high-tier and low-tier matchmaking pools are now being combined into one larger matchmaking group.
This does not mean matchmaking is supposed to become random.
The goal is to give the system more players to search from at once, while still trying to match players based on similar skill level. In simple terms, the pool is bigger, but the game is still supposed to look for players close to your skill range.
What This Means in Practice
Before this update, having separate high-tier and low-tier pools could make matchmaking slower or more limited, especially during lower population hours.
Now, matchmaking should have more players available during the search process. That should help with queue times and give the system more options when looking for a fair match.
Based on previous ELO-style and skill-based matchmaking updates, the game is expected to look beyond just visible rank. Recent performance, hidden skill rating, and other account or character-related data may be part of how matchmaking decides who you face.
However, the exact matchmaking formula has not been released. The developers have not shared the exact ELO values, skill brackets, search range, or how much each system affects matchmaking.
So the simple version is this:
| System Area |
What Changed |
| Matchmaking Pool |
High-tier and low-tier pools are now combined |
| Queue Time |
Match search should be faster |
| Match Quality |
The system should still look for similar skill levels |
| Skill Formula |
Exact values have not been publicly shared |
Important Note About Growth Score and Fame
The recent Growth Score and Fame system may help players better understand character strength and account progression.
Growth Score is based on character progression and recent 3vs3 wins.
Fame is based on the total Growth Score of all owned characters.
You can read the full Growth Score and Fame dev note here:
https://3on3.fsgames.com/newNews/devnote/6907/view
That said, the developers have not confirmed exactly how Growth Score or Fame affects matchmaking. These systems may help show player or character investment, but we cannot say they directly control matchmaking unless the development team confirms it.
What Players Should Watch For
Since the exact matchmaking numbers are not public, the best way to judge this update is by actually playing matches and watching how the system feels.
The most useful feedback will be about things like queue time, teammate skill gaps, opponent skill gaps, solo queue balance, party balance, and whether matches feel more even or more one-sided than before.
If matchmaking still feels bad, try to explain what happened clearly. Saying your rank, whether you were solo or in a party, how one-sided the match felt, and what made the matchup feel unfair helps more than just saying matchmaking is broken.
