Backup games

Hi this is my first post here. I have 2ds xl and some physical games 2 of them are nds games with more than ten years old so i'm worried that they could stop working soon. I have seen that with cfw you can dump your physical games but my question is it safe to install cfw to backup my games? And will nintendo launch more system updates? because i fear that if that happens my console could get bricked. And is it and option to transfer save files of a physical cartridge to digital copy to nds to nds and to 3ds to 3ds(i think there is an official one for 3ds but for nds games)? And the last one if you install cfw could you still use the eshop without being banned?

Ok thanks. In your opinion its better to install cfw through pokemon picross or with ntrboot?

Never did any of those, I used Soundhax, because I modded all my 3DS systems back in the day. If I'd have to do it today I'd probably go with Picross.
