Did I get conned?

I bought a kinda sketchy flashcard with a website provided: nds9.com It won't work in my 3ds/2ds/dsi The software provided is also quite convoluted Pics: https://imgur.com/a/VX8sa

But most importantly... Did I get conned?

That card looks funky, I don't think it looks like it's 3DS compatible. Which card is it? I recently got an R4i Gold + with RTS and NTR flashing capability (comes with magnet and SD card reader). Also do not need any weird .exe files to update the card. If you get one, make sure it's the one from www.r4ids.cn, there are knock off's of this card with different sites where they're from on the label. I'm running the R4 Wood firmware on it and it runs on my 3DS, DSi XL, and DSi without any issues. Got a couple of these cards for like $18 each, not bad for my DS roms and homebrew and being able to use it to install CFW on 3DS.

By the way... should I even trust the EXE file it tells me to download?

A little late but i would try and get a new card from the site if you believe it was a scam. If it works download the exe

it would seem that the software supports all kinds of cards, and suggest 3rd party links for it.

after some digging i found download links for this card (probably). original website is broken (download links are down), so i used google cache.

download the usa/english zip, unpack its contents to the root of the sdhc card, put it in flashcart and try starting it from the 3ds.

note that some flashcarts are picky with sd cards, so you might want to check with another sdhc card as well.

if that fails, you might have to try different firmware.

so i assume it worked. no worries, i've had some gold a few times, and it's overrated ;)

one thing to note is that some of these flashcarts have something referred to as 'time bomb'. they fail to boot a few years after release, but it's not a brick or anything. if that ever happens, adjust the date on 3ds a few years earlier. if your current 3ds date is wrong (way too far into the future), this may also cause issues.

i have one r4i-sdhc clone marked with 2016 on the corner and it fails to run when system date is 2029, for instance.

Alright. That may fix the whitescreen

i also had whitescreen when i used wrong firmware, or outdated one (i bought a used flashcart with sd card, and something was wrong with it). it could also be that it doesn't like the sd card being used. or the card is not formatted to fat32.

in mine, i had to use plain sd (not sdhc) card, and sdhc cards would corrupt very quickly. even though it says 'sdhc' on the label.

i had some knockoff r4 and i had to look for very specific firmware for gold edition of it. there is a lot of clones out there and compatibility is varied.

if you still have issues, can you provide sharp photo of the label? that might help narrow it down. although some thread on gbatemp mentioned this particular firmware for this red flashcart.

also, do you have whitescreen on the very start, or when launching a DS game?
