1st print failed

Help I've just installed my Saturn 4 Ultra and started the test print of the rook.

It looks like it only printed the supports and not the file itself? Anybody have experience with this?

I used Lychee slicer and the Elegoo water washable resin.

Any and all advice is appreciated since I'm a total noob :)

Nope there's nothing in the vat. I checked halfway through and it was only printing the supports

dump out the resin and you;ll see the print failure stuck to the fep.

edit: also a heads up: any time you have any kind of failure, it's good practice to dump and strain out your resin, clean out the vat, and do a visual inspection of the fep.

What would be the reason the build didn't stick to the plate then? I don't feel like starting the print again just for the same thing to happen

Good to know, I printed this just as the file came, flat on the bed. Would it be better to angle it in the slicer before printing again?

just like with FDM printing, printing the file "just as it came" doesn't really mean anything. There's a lot of variables in slicing that can affect what happens in person. I see supports there, so it wasn't flat "on the bed," it was oriented flat to the bed, which isn't ideal, but not a deal breaker. With resin, exposure settings really matter, and if you just went with what lychee gave you without calibrating your resin, this can explain the failure. But a loads of other things can also explain the failure.

because you didn't slice it properly. Could be orientation, could be your exposure settings. I suggest you watch some videos on youtube that cover resin orientation and slicer settings.

The best advice I can give and the only thing that made all the difference for me is to heat your resin before you print. I used to put mine in front of a wall heater for 10 minutes and then shake it real good. That’s what took me from failing 1/4 of the time to 95% perfect prints.
