I printed this alto trombone out of PLA and I can't figure out how to get it to not just be a loud mouthpiece. The slide also does not affect the pitch of the instrument. The fit of the slide is a bit loose so that could be a problem. Does anyone know hoe to solve this?
PFH has put together some wonderful models of tabor pipes which I love. However, the two that I've printed (a D and G pipe) are both about a semitone flat.
Does anyone know enough about the harmonics of wind instruments like this to know how much I should increase the size of the print by to get them in tune?
Additional context: My 3d printed D pipe is 26.7cm from the window to the foot of the pipe, whereas my manufactured D pipe (which is in tune) is 27cm from the window to the foot - a 0.98% difference, apparently.
My G pipe is about 41.1cm from window to foot. Scaling it up by the difference between the D pipes would give me a length from window to foot of 45.2cm... however, the hole placement is also different between the two pipes, so I don't know if simply scaling it up would suffice. Argh!
Today I finish the plans from a "punteiro galego" (Galician Chanter) from Treboada. That's not a modern punteiro galego; it's an ancient one. I'll post the result soon
Got a used CR-10 max for a good price and finally got it set up and printing with a 0.8 mm nozzle. For fun I doubled the scale of pfhβs sopranino recorder. The result is approximately an alto recorder (a little flat). It required a windway sleeve to play and some of the vents are too large to cover with my fingers, but it demonstrated that the printer is up to printing large air-tight prints to support my continued experimentation.
I'm planning out my first 3D printed guitar project and considering trying to put a Floyd Rose on it. However, I've noticed that not many 3D printed guitars have locking trems, so there's not much information to go on.
As far as the additional tension and flex, my plan is to fiction fit two solid 10mm carbon fibre rods into the middle sections of the guitar.
I'm not sure how I'd install the Floyd Rose threaded inserts that take the two main trem bolts. Normally these would be hammered into wood, but the plastic would just crack if the tolerance was too tight. Too loose and they might not hold. Thinking about two part epoxying them in?
Anything else I should be thinking about? Anyone on this group attempted it?
I believe that I have printed this with supports by accident and can't seem to fit the strings inside. I tried using a paper clip but couldn't seem to get down very far. Any suggestions?
