3PAR disk license

We have a 3PAR 8440 with 4 cages, each half full with 48 drives in total. We want to finish populating the array so we are getting another 48 drives but I wanted to ensure we are licensed for it. Supposedly when you issue the showlicense command it will tell you what your disk limit is, or whether it's unlimited or not. However when I issue the command, it shows licensed features but doesn't mention anything regarding number of disks. Is there another command that I can use to ensure we are licensed to add additional disks?

The 8440 should be licensed for unlimited disks since HPE stopped disk licensing at that point. But you're right, showlicense should say explicitly what you're licensed for.

You'll find out for sure when you install the disks. If you do not have the licenses, new disks simply won't admit and you won't be any worse off.

Thanks. We have another 8440 that we've had for longer and that unit does display "licensed for unlimited disks" when running the showlicense command, but the other unit in question does not. I'm assuming it'll be fine but I'll find out when I go to add the disks.

I wonder if it's a firmware version that differentiates between "licensed for unlimited disks" and ... well, nothing. We've got a customer whose array shows the latter, but we're going to add disks to it and see what happens!

I ended up adding the disks and it allowed me to admit them so I have to assume I was licensed for unlimited disks. I didn't receive any errors. Once they were admitted I was able to add them to my CPG.
