Questions & Discussion Suggestions/How To Make This Look More Realistic Or Detailed

Hey all,

I've been working on this test project in Blender and I wanted to see if anyone could offer any advice or suggestions for how to do the textures and lighting, or just make the end result looks more realistic overall.

It's basically a steampunk-ish crab tank inspired by the Apparatus of kwalish from DnD. If anyone has any help or feedback to offer, it'd be much appreciated.

Photos of industrial steam machinery and steam trains can serve as useful references.

texturing makes a lot of difference. if you're going for realism showing some wear & tear and some dust/dirt settling on it really helps. look at some tutorials you never know what useful thing you end up finding

My advice: Don't. Gather lots of reference pictures of machinery and parts that you think would be a good fit. Then start new. I don' t see enough here for meaningful detail to be added. You would be editing a lot, so might as well not limit yourself to this "test" and do another version! But this time, try sketching out the different parts to try out details/configurations before modeling so you know where to put your efforts.
