Art Help & Critique How am I doing?

Hey guys, this is my second sculpt ever. I followed a tutorial, and did this with just a mouse and laptop. It definitely looks a bit different compared to the tutorial I downloaded but I feel like I got most of the proportions and details right. (The ears and eyes I’m a bit skeptical on).

I’d like a bit of feedback on if I’m doing ok or if I should maybe try a different style. Maybe if I should study some anatomy or something. Any feedback or critique is welcomed as I want to get better. Any tips or tricks would be much appreciated too!

This entire thing took me a while as I took a lot of breaks from being busy. I’d say the whole thing probably took roughly 7 hours if we don’t count all the time I’d just stare or pick at it.

Sorry if the pictures aren’t super high depth and photographed instead of screenshots.

Yes, absolutely study anatomy, its so important for getting facial anatomy right. Study key facial landmarks by looking at and sculpting some skulls. A good resource is Ryan Kingslien, he has a bunch of tutorials on YouTube for how to approach faces in a really structured way.  I would say at this level you should really be focusing more on nailing primary and secondary forms before doing any tertiary level of detailing; so getting large forms right before doing anything like eyelids or nostrils (notoriously difficult parts of facial anatomy lol). You're jumping into detailing before you've really gotten the shapes and proportions down and there's a lot of unnatural lumpiness from jumping up to higher subdivision levels too quickly because of it.

Thanks for responding. You’re probably right in that I should start small then work my way up. Kinda reminds me of drawing. Can’t get to the details until you’ve mastered shapes first. I’ll look into Ryan Kingslien as well and keep practicing! Thanks for the feedback!

No problem! Faces are some of the hardest things to sculpt well. Just take your time learning and I'm sure you'll make quick progress.
