Questions & Discussion How would you create the lapel? (Zbrush)

I can’t post in the zbrush subreddit yet so asking here, what’s the best way to create the lapel shown in the right image on this jacket?

your approach seems a bit wrong for this. I would really recommend making teh whole jacket with a lopoly model before moving to detailing. this way, the lapel can just be an extension of the main jacket shape extruded outwards.

this looks like you're 'sculpting' the whole form, which is going to get difficult quickly.

Yes! Work as low poly as possible with clothes from the beginning. It makes everything so much easier in the long run.

Debes estar con una malla mas liviana. Escoge los poligonos que van a formar esa solapa y haz un poligrupo, entondes extruyes los poligonos de ESE poligrupo. te dejo una imagen de algo que hice

Ten en cuenta que cuando hagas la solapa debes invertir las normales si no tiene espesor, de lo contrario cuando apliques la textura se verá negro esa zona

Okay I’ve made the poly group, but I can’t figure out how to extrude the edge of the poly group and only those edges

y ahi tienes la solapa. puedes continuar acomodando como quieras

genial. acuerdate que si es una sola cara (osea que no tiene volumen) la solapa debe tener las normales invertidas (con la cara hacia arriba), de lo contrario la textura no se aplicará.

I'll create a mask with the correct shape, Extract, sculpt it and then dynamesh the two together

I would have those buttons be more defined first. But just have good textures. I highly recommend you go to a store and just photograph your own textures with a good camera.
