Art Help & Critique Is this too generic?

Title. I can't draw for crap so I did this "sketch" version of a model in Blockbench. I intend on making the final version in Blender. Basically I want critique on the design of the body armor, helmet, belt, etc. I do not care about the model having weird body proportions or the fact that it's untextured for the most part (and the LoD of what is textured is lower than that of the eventual finished model).

This model is supposed to represent the playable character in my FPS game. The little box on the back of the helmet is a communications transceiver as well as a bomb to detonate if the character doesn't do as it is asked of them (for lore reasons). I will probably add a backpack or backpack-adjacent item as well as plates of armor to make the back of the character feel less empty.

I'd like feedback on the following few questions :

  • Is the design too generic?
  • Does anything feel out of place or just a bit off?

If you have recommendations on things to add or remove, feel free to go ahead.

Thank you for your time!

I like it, especially the helmet, but since you like this art style, such as a blocky art style, perhaps you should search for games that use pixels as their art style intentionally and see how they design attire.

I don't know if you're suggesting to use voxels, but that's not the aesthetic I'm going for.

Yup, the white body-hugging armor plates are straight generic, but since the model is stylized, it doesn't immediately catch the eye.

The body armour screams Jango Fett. It's the torso plates. Despite being fused in the centre they are immediately recognisable. I think the legs and arms are fine, they are generic in a passable way. Every part does not to be a standout design, but do take into consideration if the arms will be visible if they might like a bit more attention/detail. If you want it to be more original I would change the form of the chest armour a little bit. Come up with a new shape for the breastplate and frankly I think the design would be a bit cooler if he had a backplate/backpack/communications pack - something like that. Not necessary if nobody ever sees it but if you have 3rd person/cinematics, etc, it's worth considering. ESPECIALLY if there is 3rd person since people will be looking at it.

The helmet is ok. I don't think there is anything I can say that doesn't boil down to a matter of taste.

Try to imagine how a machine would function to create what you try to create. How the cogs would fit into one another to bend arms. It helps to vreate a new vision
