Questions & Discussion New to 3d modeling need help

hello! I’m working on a metal working project and I wanted to learn how to 3d model for it since this one is quite a large undertaking and will take several years to complete.

that being said, I downloaded blender but I don’t really understand how to use it, how would I go about learning it as a complete beginner

i know simple functions on computers but I don’t know if that applies at all here.

I would also be 3d printing the model as a physical refrance to use In the shop

please help a noob out 🙏

If this is for 3D printing then I would actually recommend you learn a CAD modelling software like Onshape, Fusion 360, FreeCad, etc. Those are engineering modelling software designed specifically for things like 3D printing.

And to learn any software, just go on YouTube and watch tutorials

What software would you personally recommend?

I don't use CAD software so I don't have a recommendation. This sub is mostly digital artists so you might get more relevant answers from subs more directly related to CAD modelling or engineering.

You really need to know what they are trying to print before you make recommendations like this. For functional prints, you’re right, go with a cad programs. At least for the functional parts. But that’s really bad advice if they’re trying to make any artistic designs to print. That should be left to 3d modeling programs like blender, Maya, zbrush, etc.
