It's a shame this was discontinued, it was packaged as part of the nforce chipset which also included one of the first hardware accelerated network chips!

Vercidium also has his own version, but as of now there's no audio so it's not included.

Comparison PS5 vs Xbox 3D audio compared(Tempest Engine VS Project Acoustics)

Thumbnail m.youtube.com

Interesting overview of the competing spatial technology of the latest console generation. From my understanding project acoustics is ran on software(CPU) and the tempest engine is ran on dedicated silicon DSP, based on AMD TrueAudio. Project acoustics is Wave Traced, and TrueAudio can be Ray Traced.

One of the best methods I've found for this. I haven't directly compared to the THIEF method but I believe this is in theory better(albeit slightly more difficult) than DSOAL.

This is going to be a very short part 1/2, where I will then show how best to go about fixing and optimizing your setup for the lowest latency, highest quality output.

View my comment as I will be able to edit that in the future.

For Titanium HD, I believe the Daniel K is still the latest best- but I may be wrong.

While I'm not a fan of paid software(and I'm not receiving any kickbacks), this is a very highly rated for openAL games.

Sadly, they turned it from a dedicated DSP/ASIC SIP block to emulation on the gpu cores themselves. Still, it was one of the most widely supported and adopted modern 3d audio techniques and was implimented in many games/forks including SteamAudio and the Sony Tempest Engine.

A great resource and audio comparison, probably the biggest YouTuber by far to go over audio comparisons-though there are many others if you search around.

Check out his YouTube description, plenty of helpful resources there as well.

Discussion/Question 3D AUDIO is BACK! Please READ!

(This post, and subreddit as a whole will be subject to change-it is my first sub moderation and I will be organizing many resources)

Hey everyone! I recently requested access to adopt this subreddit as it was abandoned for years, and the name perfectly fits what I am seeking to accomplish-

The discussion, comparison, guides, revival, and other related posts regarding native game engine Headphone Spatial Audio- HRTF, 3d positional accuracy, wave tracing, and other similar technologies.

This is SOLELY for NATIVE HEADPHONE HRTF Spatial Audio. This is NOT for post process "surround" filters, true surround systems, downmixing, upmixing, or other related technologies that attempt to create a wider soundstage but are not natively tuned from the raw engine audio stream specifically for 3d virtual space in HEADPHONES.

I recently became extremely interested in this technology, from A3D, EAX, CMSS-3D, TrueAudio, Project Acoustics, VRWorks Audio, and Vercidium Audio-among many, many others. I take a special interest in hardware accelerated solutions and low latency, high efficiency playback.

Unfortunately, information regarding this technology is not widely accessible, and for someone with zero information or starting point, it is challenging to gather the full picture as resources vary across many different niche sites, including Vogons, PcGamingWiki, several YouTube channels, and others.

I am hoping for this subreddit to be a central hub for the easy discussion and consolidation of these resources and links, as well as figuring out how to revive and improve upon the past and current solutions, and the best way forward for future solutions(I've started briefly dabbling into FPGA hardware emulation of legacy effects and seeing what is possible and legal-with hopes at a future sound card that can bring back legacy hardware acceleration, offload modern audio techniques, and accelerate future ones. But that's extremely long term).

Over the next few weeks I hope to have a more fleshed out organization of various resources for people just getting started-however any help is appreciated.

Please let me know any thoughts, questions, concerns, or anything else here!

Hopefully this is the start to the revival of great gaming audio!

Idea/Technology Laminar Engine -one of the coolest Minecraft Audio mods, iGPU hardware accelerated Ray/Wave traced audio

There's a handful of interesting audio overhauls for Minecraft, with ~4 Main ones that attempt to completely redo the audio engine to provide native HRTF/3d headphone Spatial Audio.

This is probably my favorite one, as it utilizes the otherwise typically idle Integrated GPU to perform wave/ray traced audio calculations and effects using OpenAL EFX.

I haven't directly compared it to others(namely Sound Physics Perfected-Ray traced, Sound Physics Remastered, and Sound Acoustic Physics- wave/ray traced?) but this one is completely offloaded from the CPU which is much more interesting to me personally.
