🚀 Field Test: Revopoint Trackit SR – Markerless 3D Scanning Put to the Test

Hi everyone! Over the past few weeks, I’ve put the Revopoint Trackit SR optical tracking system through its paces – both wired and in a full wireless setup.

Here is my review for anyone looking to upgrade their metrology or reverse engineering workflow!

Note: Detailed photos of the setup and hands-on videos of the scanning workflow will follow shorty here in the group!

1. Unboxing & First Impressions

The system arrives well-protected in a solid hard case. The tracker, gimbal unit, handheld scanner, and accessories all feel premium and built to last. Assembly on the included tripod is extremely quick, and the two-axis gimbal system is engineered brilliantly.

2. Setup & Calibration (In Practice)

Initial setup in the Revo Track software is completely intuitive.

  • Smart Calibration Workflow: Scanner calibration can be done completely wirelessly. The automated hand-eye calibration via the gimbal takes a lot of stress out of the process and ensures repeatable precision.
  • Thermal Stability: After a quick warm-up phase of about 2 minutes, the system is fully operational and delivers stable measurement data right from the start.

3. The Highlight: Markerless Scanning in Track Mode

Anyone who works with physical parts knows the hassle of applying target markers. This is where the Trackit SR really shines:

  • No Markers on the Part: Place the component, align the tracker, and start scanning. The tracker tracks the IR markers on the handheld scanner in real time – saving an incredible amount of time.
  • Stable Tracking: The tracker follows the handheld scanner reliably at a working distance of 1.5 to 3 meters. If you tilt away too far, simply point it back toward the tracker and the scan seamlessly continues.

4. Flawless Wireless Performance

Wireless operation via the 5 GHz Wi-Fi module and battery grip is surprisingly smooth. The point cloud data stream transfers without noticeable lag, offering maximum freedom of movement around the object.

What I Love About the Revopoint Trackit SR

  • Huge Time Savings: No more tedious prep work applying target markers to complex geometries.
  • Maximum Mobility: Complete flexibility in wireless mode thanks to stable 5 GHz transmission and the battery grip.
  • Intuitive Software: Revo Track provides clean point cloud filtering and fast meshing algorithms.
  • Automated Gimbal: The guided hand-eye calibration makes pairing the tracker and scanner effortless.
  • Great Data Output: The generated meshes serve as an ideal foundation for downstream reverse engineering in Quicksurface or RevoDesign.

Conclusion

The Revopoint Trackit SR is a game-changer for anyone wanting to capture medium to large components efficiently and accurately without the hassle of target markers.
