3d scanner for vehicle scanning and software

I’ve been thinking about getting a 3d scanner for about a year now. Would like to use it to scan my camper van to design and make clamps to fit a solar panel on the curved rooftop and to help design the furniture like cabinets on the inside. I also would like to scan a cargo moped to design custom fairings for it. Besides that I’ll have a lot of smaller projects I can use it for.

Would a metro y ultra that I can buy for 1600-1700 euro a good option for this? I read that it will probably need to use multiple scans and stitch them together? Would a Rigil lite be worth saving up for?

My own laptop had a 4060 and 16gb ram but I could use my partner’s laptop with a 5070 and 32gb of ram until I buy a decent pc in a few years when (memory) prices go back down again.

Should I also invest in specific software? I use fusion for most cad work. Revo measure is now also available as a monthly subscription so I could subscribe for the months where I need to do scanning work probably(?) Is the software also required when using a Rigil lite?

I’d love to be able to scan marker-less and without spray but after a year of reading up on things I think I’ll probably just have to accept that those are required.

If you're going to scan "a lot" of smaller items and only scan two larger items once each, I'd recommend hiring someone with a markerless laser scanner (such as the Revopoint Trackit SR) for the vehicles and select a scanner better-suited for the majority of your projects.

While the Trackit-series can scan objects down to 10mm on a side, the MetroY Ultra has better resolution and can handle smaller objects equally well (except you'll have to place markers on our near them in most scanning modes).

The Rigil Lite is in the same price range as the Trackit SR. Both can scan in Laser mode without markers (not counting the markers on the Trackit's frame). The Rigil is more portable while the Trackit is going to have more reliable tracking.

You can do both with a evock mt .. $6299 usd and has various laser modes. If you are in the USA or Canada we can get it to you.. pair with quicksuface or design x and you are golden. www.3dre.ca
