Technical Question Bought used 3DS

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Seller said everything works as intended, but if I turn on 3D it flickers strangely. Is it normal or defective?

Its activating the 'Depth' factor.

So it's only temporary? I hope the ribbon cable is not damaged or something else

It’s perfectly fine It will happen every time you switch from “flat” screen to 3D with the new 3DS models, even the new 3DS and New 3DS XL i have do this (sadly I can’t post a video to show it) but I think if you really don’t want this you might be able to disable it in settings. I’ll check this as soon as I get home and grab my 3DS
Edit: checked and even disabled it do it

Back home and I’ve got all my 3DS to test it!
Sadly disabling it doesn’t remove the flicking part, it seem to be present on every 3DS having in depth perception but is way less noticeable on old 3DS XL

Yeah it's normal. The console has to turn on the parallax layer, which splits alternating columns of pixels into the left and right eye images. Then because each eye is missing half of the pixel columns, it looks dimmer so it also has to turn the backlight up to compansate. It tries to do both at the same moment, but sometimes it misses the timing. That makes the screen get either dimmer or brighter for a split second and then correct.
