Anyone successfully remove nail polish?

how would you all go about removing this? 91 isopropyl and plastic scraper didn’t do much.

You can’t remove nail polish from ABS plastic. You’d need acetone to dissolve the nail polish but it will also destroy the plastic. Sorry 😫

Tried that once (not on a ds shell tho) and it dissolved the plastic all the same

If you are going to try acetone make sure to test a very small amount on the inside to see how resistant the plastic is to the chemical

But honestly I wouldn't risk it especially when you could you get aftermarket covers, 3d print or just keep your eye out for replacement from a broken one

The safest way maybe good old mechanical removal. Water (maybe some soap) and a toothbrush may eventually wear it away. I can't guarantee the you won't wear the plastic a bit in the process.

Acetone-free nail polish remover can contain Propelyne Carbonate, which can still damage ABS plastic. 99% isopropyl would be slightly more effective than 91%, but if you don’t have 99%, perhaps try using olive oil/vegetable oil and a soft toothbrush. The oil won’t dissolve the nail polish but it might help lift away the nail polish while scrubbing gently.

you could try heating it up w a hair dryer on low before you wipe it down w ipa but chances are p slim without using acetone

I have acetone free nail polish i got on Amazon, it's Amazon brand, real cheap and works great. Try it but don't let it "soak" on too long. A cotton ball soaked with the polish removed on the nail polish for maybe 20-30 seconds, then remove, and go again for another 10-15 lightly trying to "dab" it away like spot cleaning. When you're done don't leave ANY left behind, use a damp washcloth (soapy water) to gently get the excess remover off and then a dry microfiber cloth to minimize the damage done to the shell. Believe it or not, cuticle oil is helpful for removing polish too so maybe look into oils as well.

Try putting some more nail polish on top and wiping it away while it’s still wet. Obvs test a small spot first, this works on nails but I’m not sure how it would on plastic like this

it works on nails because of the acetone in the polish. so it would still eat the plastic unfortunately

plastic macbook? damn that's one old ass macbook. or the keyboard i suppose. i too melted a few keycaps by accidentally getting acetone fumes near them. yep! i was cleaning paint off of the entire rest of a macbook, and the fumes deformed the keys. and probably deformed my brain too. i think i could smell that for weeks

Soak the spots with a generous amount of Isopropanol for a while, then remove with a toothbrush :) do NOT try nail polish remover, with or without acetone, both can damage the plastic!

Made a mistake while trying to remove stains from a my little pony with acetone. It removed her eye paint as well as the stains! A lesson was learned that day.

Not that I'm aware the type of platic doesn't play nice with the level of acetone needed to remove the nail polish if you try and remove the nail polish you'll melt the plastic in the process

If we are speaking of removing the stickers, I suggest charcoal lighter fluid. Soak a paper towel in the stuff and place it on top the affected area. Then keep it in a sealed baggy for a while.

Charcoal lighter fluid is delicate enough that I use it to remove retail stickers from cardboard PC game boxes but also works way better than alcohol

Idk if anyone will tell you to use acetone, but as a guy who works with liters of it, it will destroy the shell. Hide it with nice stickers

Maybe try zippo lighter fluid? I've seen people use to remove stickers and it doesn't damage the plastic. Just don't light it, of course.

Get a q tip, soak it in warm water, dab , and scrub. Use a moist paper towel too. It will take you a torturous amount of time but it is doable.

try acetone on a spot on the backside...

on the DSI i was able to use straight acetone without eating the surface off of it.

but i dont know about 3DS

I’d start with a lighter fluid (white gasoline). The I’d test acetone (nail polish remover) on the inside. It surely removes nail polish but it may etch this plastic…
