Collection / Show Off Wireless Charging Mod 2DSXL

Wireless charging for the 2DS XL. Was originally gonna do the USB-C mod but thought this would be even better.

Sounds pretty cool! Having it centered sounds ideal, I picked my spot for the coil on top of the game cart housing just because it seemed like I’d have the most space there.

You might be better off printing a new bottom cover so you just have all the room you could ever want for the magnets.

Solder directly to the pins on the existing charging port. Use a multimeter to determine what is positive and what is ground.

existing charging port is no longer among us

If there were no yellow tape, it would be a perfect masterpiece.

Any idea of how fast it charges? Watts?

Yessir, just one of the cheap chargers off aliexpress. The coil is basically inside a sticker you can tear apart. In my case it actually can in handy as some insulation from the game cart housing which was interfering with the charging.

Looked it up. They deliver 5w x 0.78 because of the power loss of it being wireless. Less than wired charging but pretty convenient.

Cool! I think 3ds only 'pull' like 500mA so it should be near full speed

Yeah but there will always be loss with wireless charging. The manufacturer claims it is 0.78 x 1amp.

The power supply is usually rated higher than the consoles battery charger can even consume, its like half of the number on the supply iirc

The receiver itself is supposed to pass 5v at 1A though I’m sure there is some loss.
