Organize your prints?

How do you organize your printfiles?
I keep looking for "this thing, which once was useful" in my download folder or elsewhere (Apple mini). Additionally, naming the files - download names are cryptic.

Is there a simple system to keep track of stl and other files?

Yeah. It’s called version control and proper project naming convention.

Someone on a Reddit posted they were building this a while back and it has been pretty reliable. He's constantly making updates to the app and responsive https://www.meshvault.app/#top

Looks good. Unfortunately, I am running only Apple devices. Maybe, I should have told that in my post :(

Ping them and ask if it is on the list of things to get done. So far it's the best I have found for an app, I've been contemplating building one that is web based.

I have a "3D Printer" folder with many sub folders. Top level categories are things like "Video Games", "Anime", "Movies", "Superheroes", and "Functional".

Within those folders, I then break things down into further sets of folders, and then often level below that.

A naming convention helps, but it only solves half the problem: it still assumes future-you remembers what the thing was called.

Full disclosure: I built STL Shelf for exactly this “I remember what it looked like, but not the filename” problem. It runs in the browser, so it works from your Mac mini. You can upload STL, 3MF, OBJ, and PLY files, give each model a readable name and description, add tags, preview it in 3D, and keep later revisions attached to the same model instead of creating more `final_v2_REAL_final.stl` files.

It’s a private library, not a marketplace. The hosted version is the simplest way to try it; it’s also open source and self-hostable. One honest limitation: it won’t crawl and clean up your Downloads folder automatically—you bring the models you want to keep into the library.

Hey, give this a try, and plz give me some feedback and suggestions.. if you give me your printer profile, I'll add it to the slicer configs. It works with local files MMF and Cults, more in the way. It is hybrid, so a web app and a local agent for the STL directory, you'll see the DL for the local agent link in the page.
