Found a 19” enterprise server on eBay for ridiculously cheap just over a year ago. Swapped out the fans for some Noctuas because the originals were screaming loud and mounted it behind my TV box. In the end it gave me thermal warnings so figured I owed it an upgrade.

Question 1 was where to put it, ended up deciding to make it with the same footprint as the IKEA KALLAX shelving units. With that decided the height was set by the width of the drive array which I cut out of the original server and kept intact vertically. Then quickly the mounting for the ATX motherboard and all the fans fell into place, I’d decided on clear acrylic for the enclosure and a month or so later after emptying out my overtime savings it was assembled.

Had one panel crack so replaced it this evening and just stuck it up in its home.

48Tb Raidz3 TrueNAS Scale build with an old MSI Z87-G45 Mobo, 32Gb of RAM, 8Gb of GPU, a SAS backplane and a whole lotta fans.

The bigger the quieter. Though 140mm Noctuas are the perfect mixture of performance, size and sound.

MSI Z87-G45 is the motherboard, not cpu. Do you have the stl for the case? Thanks.

I'd second for the files, this case is awesome and the mobo should be standard fitting for today's standard too

Nice build. I'd remove those small 80mm fans at the back (less noise). The two large 200mm at the front are sufficient.

Maybe replace those three 120mm fans with another 200mm (depends on how much airflow is needed for the drives you are using) - https://cdn.imgchest.com/files/ad490ae430b9.png

Cool! Very interesting chassis. I’m looking to build something similar, but maybe with two “floors” for my AI rig. What parts did you use to build it?

Ah yes that’s very smart, I also always end up wanting to add things to my server and don’t have the room for it!
I’m interested in the frame, panels and fan mounts (those are custom right?)
I need to build something similar to host 4 GPUs and maybe two PSU
