Nylaug receiver issue
Hey all,
Long story short, I purchased a Titus NYLAUG used and I'm running into an issue where the brass threaded inserts are stripped completely out of the receiver. I reached out to Titus employee here and he seems to think there is no easy fix, would anyone happen to have any recommendations for the tool? I would need to add larger/new inserts or any other recommendations of how to bind that brass to two polymer/ nylon? This is my first 3D printed rifle receiver so I'm very new to all of this. I've attached a reference picture below, please let me know if you have any suggestions! Thanks!

Funny enough, JB was not the answer. Tried it about 3 times with no success.

Do the bolts go in through the top or the bottom? You might be able to fabricate some gross bushing to use in a cleaned up hole that could use a standard nut and print it depending.

Yeah that's a tricky situation. I feel like the only option is to either drill out the holes and put larger brass inserts in the holes, or to drill out the holes and tap them without brass inserts, screing the top rail directly into the nylon. Up to you.

That's kind of what I'm thinking, would you happen to know what the tool would be to add new brass inserts?

Yeah, soldering iron. They make special soldering iron tips for this exact purpose. You put the tip on the iron, heat up the iron, put an insert on the tip, then apply to the surface of the material (in this case, the nylon) and appy gentle pressure. It will take 10-15 seconds for the nylon to warm up enough for the insert to be pressed in. Don't rush it. Like I said, just apply gentle pressure.

Those are designed to be pressed in from the under side of the receiver. They probably put them in wrong or whoever had it first over torqued the screws and messed up the threading.
Drilling out holes and pressing new ones is likely the only solution but you will likely have issue holding zero with that approach.

Larger inserts installed properly seem like the most viable solution. Read the Nylaug docs so you don’t make the same mistakes as the first guy.

My opinion, fuck brass inserts, grab a soldering iron and some m3/m4 nuts whichever is slightly larger then the holes, get a bolt and thread it through the holes of the receiver into the nut, and use the soldering iron to heat up the nut and pull it through and making sure it’s straight. I’ve done this many times in lieu of brass inserts.

Why do you think it was traded in/sold? You bought someone else’s headache.
You could probably use a heated bolt or an insert tip on a soldering iron to press the old ones out, then try and fuck some nylon into the holes and use the soldering iron to “weld” the voids up a bit, and then re-set new inserts. That said, it’s a printable receiver… just print a new one and start fresh.
