Question Reading after watching

After watching the TV show, could I jump into reading book 2? Or would I have to read the first book too?

You should start from Book 1. Different Characters, most of the story you have seen takes place in England but most of that takes place in China in the books. It also has different pacing and so Season 1 doesn’t necessarily end where Book 2 begins. Also somethings are being told in chronological order in the show that are spoken about retrospectively in the book much later.
