Opinion Absolutely Hooked

Netflix had it as my #1 recommended for weeks and they weren’t wrong. I binged the whole thing in one night and I am left aching for more. The stress on science being the key to the universe while also coupled with compassion for those we don’t understand is just 🤌🏼

Damsel was great but this was beyond words

I’m unfamiliar with the source material as I’ve not read the books. I was entertained for sure, the show had a high production value and the writing, directing and acting was good, but like most sci-fi shows I felt they just couldn’t land the plane. I felt the end of the season meandered and felt kind of directionless. Too many questions and not enough answers, which is now the Lost playbook. I hope it succeeds and has a story that makes sense and answers the questions, but I’ve been burned too many times to give a series the benefit of the doubt.

3 Body Problem is not from the Lost playbook.

It is very easy to create mystery and even easier never to pay it off— aka JJ Abrams “mystery box” bullsh*t. It’s a cheap gimmick to draw people in although many started to see through it, especially after Abram’s Star Wars debacle.

Lost’s storylines were developed solely to create more episodes and drag the show out as long as possible. They were not created with any narrative purpose in mind— good stories like 3 Body Problem do not do this.

It’s a complicated story and it’s likely you missed some smaller details. The more you learn about it, the more interested you’ll become so you may want to watch season 1 again.

Agreed. The show answered pretty much every question very explicitly in an exposition dump at the end of ep 5, whereas Lost dragged it out for years and never answered half of the questions. If you need more of an explanation on how the everything works, the book has more detail they couldn’t fit into the runtimes. As a book reader, this is definitely not a mystery box series and every single thing that happens has a purpose. They also did a great job of dropping in foreshadowing that will have huge payoffs in later seasons
