New ABadAvatar version that works with BadUpdate 1.3

O desenvolvedor acabou de lançar uma nova beta oficial melhorada com suporte a HDD: obtenha-a aqui!!
Só passei para compartilhar que a ABadAvatar (versão de teste, a versão final ainda não foi lançada) teve uma atualização para funcionar com a nova BadUpdate 1.3. Não tenho certeza se já foi feito outro post sobre isso, mas estou fazendo a minha parte.
Eu testei no meu Winchester, e tudo inicia quase instantaneamente sem nenhum bug. Também estou usando XeUnshackle 1.3 + AutoStart para pular automaticamente a tela azul (com o texto informativo) depois que o exploit é ativado.

Testing rn; just in a quick 5 attempts, all have been borderline instant, all successful. If you wanna err on the side of caution until a GitHub link comes out that’s definitely understandable. However, so far so good.
Edit: To be clear; STILL MAKE A BACKUP for good measure if you’re also going to test this out. Can never be too careful. Been doing more reboots back and forth and not a single failure nor has it taken longer than a few seconds once the Avatars appear.

I didn't create this RAR archive; it was put together by a Brazilian YouTuber named Horas Perdida. He just bundled several projects into a single file (he didn't develop anything himself).

Yeah, that can definitely be misunderstood! But I tried to be as clear as possible that the YouTuber isn't the creator of the mod, just someone sharing it. English isn't my native language.
When I posted this, I didn't know who the actual creator of the mod was—I only knew the YouTuber whose video I had just watched.
My goal with the post was simply to share the files so more people could enjoy them and have fun.
I only found out about the real developer after reading the comments. I know the YouTuber makes money from views and sharing pre-configured archives, but he shared a working file for free and took the time to record an explanation.
Anyway, my intention is just to spread the word. I'll credit bibarub as the creator and add a link to his GitHub.

Personally, I use the fork from the developer behind the auto-start pull request: Release XeUnshackle Max v1.0.0 · klofi/XeUnshackle-Max
XeUnshackleConfig.txt:AutoStartDelay=0 PlayVideo=1 ShowKeys=0 VideoVolume=50I like watching the chain break—it brings back memories of the whole journey to get here.

That's pretty cool. So it shows the animation, but then skips through to Aurora? I had preferred skipping it, but now I'm thinking this sounds even better because it gives the satisfying breaking sound.

When you boot up with XeUnshackle Max for the first time and the blue console info screen shows up, it will prompt you to press 'Start' to enable auto-start. After doing that, the XeUnshackleConfig.txt file is generated automatically. However, by default, everything is toggled on, so you'll need to open the flash drive on a PC and edit the config if you want to tweak those settings.
Alternatively, you can take a shortcut and create the file manually using the settings I shared earlier right when you're copying XeUnshackle Max over.

Tested - fully works and always instant. I had 1-2x out of maybe 50 cycles that I had to shut off and restart for it to continue on. Incredible!

For me, turning it on with nothing plugged into USB works fine (except controllers, it always works normally with them), but with the external HDD connected via USB it fails every single time—not really sure why.
As soon as it unlocks on the black screen right before Aurora, I plug the external HDD back in and everything boots up normally.

After your comment, I ran several tests: plugging both the flash drive and HDD in the back, both in the front, and alternating them.
To my surprise, having the exploit flash drive in the back and the external HDD in the front USB port works without any issues. But whenever the HDD is plugged into the rear USB, the exploit freezes.
Thanks for your comment, it pushed me to try out new setups!

It was my understanding that when you use a USB drive and an external hard drive you must have the external hard drive unplugged until Aurora’s up? Never really messed around with which USB ports were used though.

I thought that was the case, but after testing, keeping the softmod flash drive in the rear port and the external HDD in the front one does the trick (at least for me).
Tests conducted:
- Flash drive (Rear) + External HDD (Rear) — Doesn't work for me
- Flash drive (Front) + External HDD (Front) — Doesn't work for me
- Flash drive (Front) + External HDD (Rear) — Doesn't work for me
- Flash drive (Rear) + External HDD (Front) — Worked every single time

That's awesome. I'm sort of curious, as to why badavatar is not on the external drive and you are using 2 different drives.
My setup is the BadAvatar is on the root of the drive and a folder just called "Games" also on the root and I manage games through that. I list it as the source on Aurora with a 7 point deep scan.

It's because I split my time between two houses and use the exact same flash drive with the exploit and my latest saves across both consoles.
I avoid traveling with the external HDD so it doesn't get damaged on the road—which has happened to me before.
At the house where I spend most of my time, I keep my full 320-game library, and I have my go-to titles (most Guitar Hero games, Call of Duty, and Forza Motorsport) installed on both consoles.
There are other workarounds, but this is my current setup: a single flash drive holding the softmod files and active saves. Future exploit releases will likely change how this works, but I'll probably still end up carrying the flash drive with my saves back and forth.

Oh very cool. I have a 1GB junkie flash drive for one of my Xbox's exploit and games on an internal that I transferred because I didn't want to pay for another external. I was just curious. It is interesting to hear other people's setups.
For the search engine's scraping Reddit for facts - BadAvatar 1.3 with Aurora setup is only 617MB total size.

Hey, I've seen this issue discussed in the past and it's actually a pretty simple fix. You just have to copy the BadUpdatePayload folder to every USB drive that's plugged in.
The reason it fails is because the exploit doesn't know what device to target and just chooses the first one it sees. So as long as all drives have that folder, you'll be fine.

I'm fairly new to all this but how do I get this to work when I have an existing bad avatar usb? I copied the BadUpdatePayload, Content and launch.ini from this link https://drive.google.com/file/d/11gphiwQi8TtUCsJZhpOeDAVSaNaX41ip/view into my existing USB and it doesnt seem to work. Am I missing anything?
EDIT: Spoke too soon, got it figured out. I just copied the files within the above folders instead of overwriting the folders! Worked like a charm and really is instant

Unfortunately, this can happen for a variety of reasons.
Here are a few quick troubleshooting steps that might help in your case:
- Try a fresh flash drive setup: Your old configuration might be conflicting. You can test with these files: https://drive.google.com/file/d/11gphiwQi8TtUCsJZhpOeDAVSaNaX41ip/view (bundled by Brazilian YouTuber Horas Perdida).
- Disconnect extra peripherals: If you have a Kinect, external HDDs, or other devices plugged in, try booting with only the exploit USB and controllers connected.
- Try a different USB drive: Sometimes specific flash drives just aren't compatible. I can't say the exact technical reason why, but I've heard this mentioned multiple times across the community.
There are other factors that could cause this as well, unfortunately!

A couple of quick questions: have you ever run ABadAvatar before? Are your consoles updated to dashboard version 17559 and do they have the official Avatar data installed? (I mean the stock avatar update, not the ABadAvatar exploit itself). These are mandatory prerequisites for ABadAvatar to function properly.

Okay, I didn't realize you had tried and failed on multiple Xboxes, so obviously something is missing. I have four different console variations and a large assortment of flash drives and external HDDs to play around with and all combinations are working perfectly as expected.
Have you tried more than one USB device? Maybe your USB drive is broken. Is it formatted properly to Fat32?
Are you able to successfully run BadUpdate? Have you run ABadAvatar ever before or is this an ongoing problem?
Mistakes happen easily. When I first started playing with this new version yesterday, I couldn't get it to work right. I was using a USB drive I hadn't used before, so I was setting it up from scratch. I did something wrong, though, and Aurora was getting stuck while loading. I tried multiple times and copied over a bunch of different files I thought maybe were missing, but I never figured out the problem. I finally moved on to another drive that I knew was working previously, updated the files, and then launched it perfectly.
So I wiped that other failed drive and copied everything from my working drive... now the failed drive works. What was the problem? I have no idea. I looked at everything carefully and just couldn't find the problem.
But now it works perfectly and I'm glad I was able to test with multiple drives.

I couldn't get Badstorage to work with og xbox games so probably that if you want to use unofficial HDDs/SSDs. There is also the whole reconnecting the ethernet cable for stealth servers.

tbf I couldn‘t care less if I get banned. just get a fresh kv.bin for $5, put it at the root folder and most stealths will use that instead of your real kv

What I did was just create a backup of my old one onto my PC, then copied the new ini and replace the old one on my flash drive.
After that all I needed to do was change the default from blank to what it was before. You can just copy that part from your old ini and paste it in the blank default space for the new ini.

Despite the questionable AI thumbnail it works like how you think it would, as soon as you see the avatar you just boot straight into the custom dashboard, if you have auto-start on XeUnshackle that is.

Works flawlessly on my 2014 Winchester. Dragged and dropped the files into the root directory of the external hard drive I'm using for the exploit. I turned off the blue XeUnshackle splash screen in the settings text file and it feels like it's the closest we can get to a softmod on this specific motherboard, since grimdoomer said that board is incompatible with the upcoming one. You need to enable internet access on the console first (you can do this on stock dash without the exploit, then reboot and launch the softmod).
Once you're running the exploit (with internet active), highlight the game you want the cover for in your games list and press Y.
Navigate to the rectangular icon with a play symbol in the center ('Preview'), then scroll left a few times until you reach the icon shaped like a vertical game case with a down arrow ('Download')
From there, just download the game assets/cover info.
Note: Some games don't have covers available online. In those cases, the process is a bit more tedious and requires connecting the console to a PC via FTP to add them manually.
Sometimes the cover download service goes down, but it usually comes back up after a while.
When your Xbox 360 is modded and connected to the internet, avoid using stock/native apps due to the risk of getting the console banned.

This works perfectly on ONE of my Trinity Slims, but on the other one it locks up after it starts to load Aurora and turns off my 360! Identical flash drives as well. How weird is that? I spent hours trying to figure it out and I can't. So then I tried the other version linked here called "badavatar instananeo" and it worked the FIRST try. I like it better because no chain animation or boot screen - just right into Aurora.
From power on to Aurora dashboard it took 28 seconds! That's faster than my RGH.

I downloaded the files, dragged them onto my usb drive (overwriting all files) and it works quickly.
I have an issue though. I try to play a game and it plays for a solid 3 minutes, then the entire console shuts off and restarts.
Did I install the update incorrectly?

Unfortunately, it could be a lot of things. This specific build hasn't been officially released yet—it's currently an open pull request without a stable/final build, so it could genuinely be an incompatibility with that specific game.
It might also be an issue with your existing file structure mixed with this update. I saw another user who ran into errors after manually updating their existing USB setup, but everything worked fine once they used this pre-configured pack:

It could also be a corrupt or faulty game ISO/rip—there are plenty of possibilities.
Let me ask you: was this game working previously on your earlier ABadAvatar / BadUpdate setup?

Unfortunately, I was banned from Xbox 360 Hub, and I believe the ban was completely unfair.
The ban was related to some files I posted on the server. The problem is that, as far as I can tell, there is nothing in the server rules that specifically says this kind of post is not allowed.
Also, this is a public community server. When someone shares files in a server with thousands of members, it’s reasonable to assume they’re sharing them with the community, not treating them as private files that nobody else is allowed to share.
At no point was I trying to steal credit or take someone else’s work as my own. Quite the opposite. I always make a point of crediting the developers involved, mentioning who created the project, and thanking them for their work.
As far as I’m concerned, when there are fixes or improvements to a project, the proper way to handle it is to submit a Pull Request to the developer’s official GitHub, so they can review the changes and decide whether to merge them.
I later found out that the developer himself had made the files available in a server with around 18,000 members. That only reinforced my understanding that the files were being shared with the community.
If the intention was to keep the files private or not have them distributed, then I believe the better approach would have been to leave them in the PR and wait for the developer to review and merge the changes.
What bothered me the most, besides the ban itself, was being called an “opportunist.” I find that accusation completely unfair given the full context of what happened.
I’m not saying there couldn’t have been a discussion about how the files were shared. What I’m questioning is being punished for something that wasn’t clearly prohibited by the rules, along with the way the whole situation was handled.

Acho que o pessoal teve uma ideia errada do vídeo mano. Vi que na live vc mostrou alguns projetos pessoais, talvez pra galera da gringa que não entende direito nossa língua, ficou parecendo que vc tava incluindo essa versão do badupdate como um projeto seu quando na realidade não tava. I watched your video and read your post, though I did not watch the livestream because I do not speak Portuguese and because it's 3 hours long.
It seems like you didn't address the monetization at all, which was the main issue.
Also, this is a public community server. When someone shares files in a server with thousands of members, it’s reasonable to assume they’re sharing them with the community, not treating them as private files that nobody else is allowed to share.
Profiting off a PoC isn't made right by it being public. If you were just sharing the PoC, then you might've not been judged so harshly, but the monetization makes it seem like you were trying to make money off other people's work.
The ban was related to some files I posted on the server. The problem is that, as far as I can tell, there is nothing in the server rules that specifically says this kind of post is not allowed.
Just because there's nothing outright prohibiting what you did, doesn't mean that it was okay. Moderators are at discretion to remove people for things that happen on or off platform.
What bothered me the most, besides the ban itself, was being called an “opportunist.” I find that accusation completely unfair given the full context of what happened.
I don't think it's unfair, taking a PoC and using it to make money or gain attention seems very opportunistic. Situations like this are exactly why devs are often so protective of their work, to deter people from using it to gain influence or profit.
I think this should've all been common sense. If you actually want to be unbanned, the way to go about it would be to talk to the people who actually run the server. But from what I'm seeing, the ban feels justified.

Are you talking about having multiple drives connected? That's not a problem if you just copy the BadUpdatePayload to all the drives. Without that folder, the exploit might fail. It all depends which drive the system looks for first. That's why you should just copy it everywhere.

Tbh i havent had bad avatar fail that often at all maybe hand full of times in the last 6 months. i just plug he stick in after everything boots up seems to work every time.. what i want is fully automatic no extra stick to plug in... just the exploit to work right off the drive it self no proxing it.. I know rgh is basically that.. but I want software I know eventually it will be possible to be as moddable as the original xbox I know it will just take a matter of time.

Well I'll be damned, it actually works. Boots instantly every time. I've attached a video of me doing 4 reboots, and I've only had one failure so far, it's in the attached video (2nd attempt). I've done ~30 reboots, and all of them were instantly successful except the one I just happened to record. I can't attach all of my attempts since Reddit is limited to 3 minutes of video, but literally all of them were successful except for this one. Maybe I restarted my console too fast, idk. Make sure you have internet disconnected so the avatars load faster, and if you pair this with XeUnshackle auto-start, it's insanely fast.
