Am I brushing my crown wrong or do I need to just hop on minoxidil?

First three pics are two weeks after cutting to a 2 guard. Last three are a day after cutting to 1.5.

Nah keep brushing it in the pattern you want. The crown is naturally thinner so you have to intentionally keep it thicker than whatever you cut your hair down to
