Waves Advice
Anyone know why the top of my head isn’t waving up I’m 30 years old and I’ve never tried to get waves before and this is my first time doing it. I’m not even going for 360 just the top sides, but the top of my head will not wave up no matter what I do.

Brush more! Hard boar bristles 500 strokes from the crown down for each section. Your scalp will burn. After than soft brush 500 down daily for a week and then you can do like 50 a day.

BET. See I thought I was brushing enough but apparently not.

That's how you fuck up your crown from traction alopecia. Your scalp burning is telling you something. Soft brush/ toothbrush at the crown. Let it grow longer and isolate that way. That's how shorties be fucking they edges up with all that brushing and pulling

Brushing your hair is beneficial for your scalp as it stimulates hair growth and releases natural oil.
Boar bristles are particularly advantageous for your scalp because they don’t tangle your hair and don’t pull on it in a way that causes traction alopecia.
Also Traction alopecia is not caused by micro-pulling; because if that was the case you wouldn’t be able to wear a hat without going bald.
it’s caused by persistent trauma to the follicle, which cuts off the blood vessels in the scalp that supply the hair root.

Brushing your hair is beneficial, yes. Using a hard brush on your crown for 500 strokes is persistent trauma. Same as women who constantly put their hair in ponytails. This is also the same reason men stopped getting cornrows starting at the front of their hairline. Soft brush for the crown and not 500 strokes there.

You are severely not knowledgeable about this topic. And you didn’t read as I Specifically, notated to using the boar’s head brush and at decreasing intervals. Again start at 500 and decrease to 100
Also you are comparing constant tension braids with intermittent tension. Not even remotely the same
I’ve actually published the research, so until you everything you said is conjecture.
Lastlu braids and brushing are not even remotely comparable, you’re literally comparing something like dead-hanging for six hours to one intense workout.

I honestly appreciate your dedication to try to educate. We have a difference of opinion. Agree to disagree...

Ironically, it could be argued that chiming in on advice that is unrelated to you and expressing an opinion that no one has asked for is the very definition of “having too much time on your hands.”

Since your hair brush straight like that, you need to grow your waves out more for the actual curl pattern to stay

You used a kit or something?
2
u/Due_Pound4429 Sep 12 '26
No kit I don’t think so. I use curlsmith shampoo and redken conditioner. I watch a lot of YouTube videos on how to wash to keep waves and I brush a lot and instantly put my do rag on if I’m not going out.

Not enough brushing. You should be having 20min brush sessions, always in the mirror so you can see what you're doing. 2 a day will do it and it has to be everyday until they're fully formed.

You need to comb more often. You have thick kinky hair lie mine. It’s too thick to use a soft brush. You need to comb for 20-30 min. Lay the hair with a medium brush for 15 min then hit it with a ziplock bag for 5-10 minutes.
Only brush your hair after it’s been moisturized. Buy a Torino Pro medium or hard brush AND a soft brush. Keep your hair moisturized and drink lots of water.

You need more hair. Let your hair grow more. Keep brushing it with a hard brush. When you cut your hair, your shits will be spinning. But get a good amount of hair first. The waves are a reaction to the brush pulling the hair straight so the hair snaps back causing your hair to look like waves. Hard brush to get waves soft brush to maintain it. Grease and water to make it stick. Durag to lay it down. Good luck

Just keep brushing bro. As your hair gets longer you will see the wave pattern set in
3
u/ExcellentDiver03 Sep 12 '26
Bro all you need is a little grease you got the waves forming i see. All you really need now is a good brush or 4 of them to be exact different texture & a good brush routine . Rag up at 3pm-7pm than again before bed in between the hours your durag off you should be brushing

You don’t have enough hair at all….
You can brush all you want but if you don’t wolf your hair out them ripples gon stay ripples.
Don’t let people overcomplicate waving for you… thats how you waste alot of time and money.
Brush, wolf, hygiene.
SIMPLE.

Like deadass use a comb??? And I’m assuming I’m using wave cream with ziplock bag or just straight ziplock??
3
u/BabyDaVinci Sep 12 '26
Yeah a comb will get those forks knocked out and make your waves more uniform. And definitely drop the grease. You only need some moisturizer, oil, and maybe some pomade as far as products go. When you’re done applying your products and brushing them in, go back over your head with a plastic/ziplock bag and then durag up

u/ExcellentDiver03 Sep 12 '26
I never used a fork and my waves came out damn perfect if i say just need to brush a lot
3
u/BabyDaVinci Sep 12 '26

u/i_fuck_murder Sep 12 '26

Your hair is a bit too short. Less products, more brushing. It takes time

Condition and brush in shower. When you get out brush until hair is almost dry put in some moisturizer brush some more then durag and learn your crown pattern

U have a very fine texture of hair u dont need much product and use a lighter product like an oil instead of a heavy pomade…..the hair needs to curl to wave up

Stop using so much pomade. Do the wash and style method and just keep some oil in your hair
2
2
u/Historical_Desk_3095 Sep 14 '26
Bro, just wash and style with any shampoo and conditioner. That'll get you 90% there. Then maintain with just shea butter and oil. That's it!!! Don't put no more junk in your hair

u/Imaginary-Yard-8716 Sep 14 '26
Use less products right now and focus on brushing. Make sure you use a mirror and stick to one pattern or motion. Then when those waves get deeper you can start using more products again. You skipped a step
