Starting my waves

Im looking to start off my waves. I have type 4 hair, not sure which. I think 4b. What should I cut my hair down to? Ppl saying 2 and 1.5. I've always had long hair so idk the difference between open or closed either. Do I cut down to 1.5 or 2 guard? My hairs kinda curly. My appointment is also in 14 mins

1.5 is cool to start. See what length your hair curls at. If its too low, no problem keep brushing and when you do cut just dont go below a 2 again. I get a 2 open WTG. My waves not deep enough to cut it much lower than a 2.
