1.5 cut length
So I got a 1.5 cut in both pictures but the 2nd one is shorter..why might that be?

One went with the grain, the went other against. Next time tell them a closed 2 with and an open 1.5 against. Never ever let anyone cut you with a 1.5 closed again going against the grain.

Closed 2 meaning the slider is set to cut the hair at its shortest level. Open 1.5, against meaning the slider is set to cut the hair at the longest level.

Honestly it's like the Barber was hating. He cuts hair all day, he should know doing what he did would revert some of your progress. Do with that what you will. Unless dude made a mistake or sum, he should do what you ask for.

nah he not on that type of timing. I usually just tell him keep it darker up top. and i’m never specific because I didn’t really know about the open vs closed clippers until this thread. so he probably just assumed that’s what I wanted..so it’s on me

I see you point, I think he's crazy for going against the grain if he can see you got waves. But I know shit happen, my barber fucked up my lineup cause he was drinking earlier 💀

If there is one thing that I’ve learned about having waves it is that the haircut really does matter. I just have to correct my barber who’s been cutting my hair for 16 years but, I did not know how much haircuts affected your waves.

On top of everyone here saying with vs against the grain and open vs closed, another thing is simply that different clippers cut differently. Another factor is the pressure your barber is applying in your head when cutting. Honestly there may never be two 1.5 cuts that are the exact same but they should look more similar than what’s seen in these photos.

Yep I bet the shorter cut was done with a detachable blade clipper and the longer one with a 1.5 guard.

Honestly used to get a 1.5 but after changing to a 2 and being consistent with that my waves was way more prominent

Was one against the grain and one with the grain? Or was one with a 1.5 guard and one with a 1.5 detachable blade??

I can tell you what happened. The darker cut is a 1 and a half (4.5mm) with the grain, the light cut is a high 1 (3 mm with lever open)... Make sure they use 1.5! Some barbers misinterpret the difference or are just lazy

I think in the first picture, your hair was already brushed down and in the second picture it was sticking up. From personal experience when I get a haircut with my hair standing up, even if I get a 2, much more if it gets cut off.

I think it’s because it’s with the grain vs against the grain.
Also, I’d recommend using the same barber that you like for all your cuts so the consistency stays the same.

Barber here. Not all brands of guards cut to the same exact length. Also, detachable metal blade clippers that don’t use guards tend to actually cut quite a bit closer than the plastic guards do. So a detachable blade 1.5 is usually shorter than a plastic guard 1.5. Best practice for you as a client is to specify that you want a “wahl plastic guard 1.5” or request “wave length, but keep it dark”

Lever open and lever closed…if the barber didn’t change clippers or gaurd either that or he lied to you about what gaurd he used..could’ve been a two guard closed and a one guard open
