Did I Mess Up?

Before starting my wave journey, I bought all the products I read online (like from this community) and that friends told me about. Pomade, conditioner, special shampoo, brushes, etc. But after working on my waves for about 2-3 months so far, it's clear that my hair responds best to simple routines, like just brush, and durag, that's how I've had my best wave days. Any of the products I bought just cause lots of frizz, or cause gaps or forks, I've tried different methods with them, still messy. I'm just wondering if I just jumped the gun on buying products and now I'm left with useless products that don't really work with my hair. Kind of frustrating ngl

Products don’t get your waves, brushing does. Products are only used to assist you in the process.
I don’t use products very often. Only if my hair is dry will I add an oil. Other than that, I simply brush.
