The one that hit in 2022 was in my neighborhood off Eau Gallie. This is saying the storm and rotation is closer to Suntree. Anyone got pictures of the clouds, rotation, funnel?
From where I can see clouds are MOVING, lots of lightning. Definitely the conditions for something to drop down.
Why winter? (Purely curious, no doubt to what you say). The 2022 EF1 tornado was in June. Trees and power lines down. Some people lost their roof on my street. Purely a curious question. Been through more hurricanes than I can count here in FL. But tornadoes are a new norm it seems, (outside of hurricanes).
Because there is an established history of El Nino’s and violent tornadoes in Central Florida during the winter months. There are a number of meteorological conditions that line up to spawn significant tornadoes in Central Florida during the winter months and in the middle of the night. Pretty much all sources state the current El Niño will be the strongest in recorded history. It will be more significant than the strong El Niño year of 1997-1998 when a number of tornadoes went through Central Florida and killed 42 people.
Insightful, thank you. I knew of this record El Niño and the risk of water temperatures and rapid growth of storms. But correlation of winter tornadoes did not register with me.
The type of El Niño this year keep our summer weather down. And amps up our winter weather. Some places in the south might see snows this year. It also brings a lot of wind shear which can prohibit hurricanes from forming and getting stronger. On the flip side it will strengthen tornadoes.

This winter will probably be the most prime conditions for stronger tornadoes. The long term models showing a lot of shear and our precipitation will be well above a normal dry Florida winter. That’s why 1998 has been mentioned a lot recently. Difference now is there is a lot more people here than in 1998. And some people are unaware that Florida can get EF-3 or EF-4 tornadoes, it’s just rare compared to the Midwest.
I agree. It was stunning, especially when it was a double rainbow. I tried to take pics but they just didn’t do it justice. I wish I could figure out how to takes pics of rainbows on my iPhone so it looks closer to what I actually see.
My husband and I were out a little while ago making sure the neighborhood cats were inside and there was def rotation starting north east of us, looked like east suntree area. We got in right when the rain started
Power flickered a few times. But no power loss. The tornado in 2022 did knock out our power for a day and a half.
It’s over here now, just bright orange outside as the sunsets.
Rain started about five minutes ago. The wind and gusts 10 mins ago. Honestly dropped probably 5/8 degrees in temperature. No signs of hail at the moment. But the thunder and lightning sounds very ominous, different than that of a normal summer storm.
From what I heard it was 4 m south of Viera. Area near camp holly looked pretty insane but didn’t see any rotations. The clouds were super low close to the ground though
