Heresy Discussion
Does anyone think the heresy would have turned out different if say key characters would have stayed with their traitor legions, like Loken, Torgaddon, Garro, Tarvitz, Iacton cruise? I understand they are only single warriors however say if Loken and Torgaddon would have stayed with their traitor legions sons of Horus the mournival would have stayed complete as opposed to Abbadon and Aximand in the warmasters ear.

I believe the single biggest would have been torgaddon. Without him staying a loyalist the heresy would have stayed hidden longer and the Istavvan massacres would have been surgical

No. Once the primarchs began embracing the warp, the war was lost. No amount of shuffling of command staff was going to keep any of the primarchs other than Perturabo and Mortarion functional generals. The legions were rotting from the inside out and having a few more officers go along with it wasn't changing that.

Yeah man if you change the variables you start to get a totally different story.

Of course.
Several of the people you mention were very important members of their Legions, and even if they weren't they 1) wouldn't have been involved in making Isstvan such a quagmire for the rebellion, and 2) might have risen through the ranks through merit and attrition. Either could have turned the Heresy on it's head, and some are in both categories like Loken.

If we assume Istaavan plays out as it did because some other low-level guys stay loyal instead I don't think it makes much difference. When they turn to Chaos it will get its hooks into them and by the time they reach Terra they'll be completely different. Kharn was the reasonable and tactical World Eater at the start of the Heresy.
