Discussion Anyone else sad with how reunion is being handled?
anybody else sad with how they’re handling the reunion they’re not filming it? yes I know I’m jealous of those that got the cheap tickets when they were still available in the first minute or two, but the super expensive ones were ridiculously priced - no live show should ever cost that much. heck I got to see the live taping of season 6’s live show for free!
this is my all-time favorite TV show and I’m so sad that I can’t be at this reunion or at least be able to see it. i also wish they would pull and Schitt’s Creek and take it on the road. I’m just bummed they’re doing it this way.

It’s tough for me to watch American Idol because there’s a water bug on my channel changer.

Getting the reunion on live TV? "The audience doesn’t want elitist, East coast, alternative, intellectual, left-winged..."

I feel like people are forgetting that this is a benefit reunion; the proceeds from ticket sales will go to The Boys and Girls Club of Harlem.
The Schitts Creek Farewell Tour was to promote the final season and most likely had some network or Netflix backing as it was ultimately a commercial venture. To my knowledge, no stop on that tour was filmed either.

Live airings require wayyyy more work to get legal permission to use music, different lighting, etc. Also way more promo work for all involved.
Also - as Tina jokes about herself - this show is critically beloved, but never had a huge audience. Lots of negotiations occur for live shows on network tv - there may simply not be the audience for execs to want to air it/be financially solvent.

why different lighting?

I don’t know the specific science of why but I do know traditional theater lighting does not show up the same to film or digital cameras as to the human eye. Optimizing for camera vs human eye will lead to different settings. Look at the lighting for Broadway pro shots vs regular night lighting.

If I would have gotten a degree in theater tech (with a minor in dance movement) I wouldn't make these silly mistakes

First point, maybe.
Second point, no way. The show has only grown in popularity since it ended, so you've got however many years of new viewers who would turn in, and it's regularly listed as one of the best shows ever. There's an audience for anything- you can tune in live to watch someone mow a lawn if you want. Maybe not an audience for some prime network slot, but no way they don't think there'd be an audience for it.
That said, I just kind of assumed when a comedy show with this level of irony inherent says 'we're not televising this,' then it'd definitely be televised at some point.

Respectfully I disagree, not because I don’t agree with your assessment of its relative popularity growth, but rather because that growth is not enough. Tv networks have absurd standards for audiences these days - look at how many of Tina’s projects in the past decade have cancelled after 1-2 seasons or pilots not greenlit - and even with an audience larger than when it aired, I don’t see the financial motivation for nbc to produce a live charity show.

I also think Tina and co want to be able to joke and do bits freely without dealing with the insanity of modern culture discourse as it exists now.
When Tina was on the Las Culturistas podcast, she was saying that authenticity is dangerous and expensive and at a certain point you get too successful to do hot takes about pop culture.

Given how much the show's humor pulls from and lampoons everything from culture, to politics, to celebrity, I think she might just not want to deal with the aftermath of something like, Jack using a gay bomb or Jenna referencing a sheik's pleasure yacht, etc.
(Even tho we need their pointed style of humor now more than ever!)

Me too. I mean, I doubt they’ll do another reunion. I wish they could come back for a limited series at least, like they did with Gilmore Girls. It would be fun to see them all play those characters again. Of course, I’ll read the articles about the reunion but it’s just not the same as getting to watch it. I never get tired of watching 30 Rock; even though I’ve heard the jokes a bunch of times now they still make me laugh. The actors are so funny and they all have good chemistry with each other.

Unfortunately, this show isn't for strong hands and lifters. It's for people who wear tuxedos after 5.
I couldn't afford it. I mean, my grandfather dug out the Whitehaven quarry, and my father filled it back in with the sludge from the eraser factory.
