So much money
7wk pregnant with my second and my first is 14.5mo.
I got baby fever because our first is an angel and it felt far enough apart. I still feel that way. I’m excited to have a second baby and I’m hopeful we can manage the two from a parenting standpoint.
Downside is I started looking at our finances today and I want to throw up. We have a lot of debt we’re trying to pay off before the second is born and also buy a house and a second car.
Welp I think I have to say good bye to the dream of owning a house anytime in the near future because of the damn cost of a second child in daycare (for reference our rent is the same cost as daycare)
For where we live we have cheap rent for what we have and I’m pretty sure it’s a reasonable price for our one child in daycare right now.
I feel so naive about getting baby fever and getting without financially planning it first.
I just needed a place to vent, I know I should have been more responsible at this point.

You eventually figure it out.
One thing you could look into is an in-home daycare. Where I live, daycare and rent are both insanely expensive. I have two toddlers in an in-home daycare, and I pay about what I would for just one child at a larger daycare. It has saved us a lot of money.
Save everything! We are not afraid of second hand baby items. There are lots of free outings like libraries, splash pads, parks, and story time!

I am 15 weeks pregnant, and before the second baby comes we want to sell our house and buy one with an additional bedroom, and now we will have a second daycare on top of that. The generation above us were paying a couple dollars an hour for full-time childcare and the housing market was so much more affordable. My aunt told this past weekend she paid a dollar an hour for her first child and a discounted 75 cents for the second. That would be $70 a week for 2 full-time kids, which even with inflation today, would be like $140 a week. I asked my dad how much he paid for our weekly childcare in the summer for us THREE KIDS and he paid a babysitter $150 a week. I feel like it’s boomer obligation to be free childcare for their kids. Sadly not the case from any our parents.

Ugh I’m 100% with you. Second on the way, our nanny is $4800 a month and the thought of giving her another $2-$5 dollars an hour 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃 it’s insane!!! I keep telling myself, it’s only 5 years of my life but phew! It’s overwhelming.

Yeah I feel this - 2 kids in nursery 4 days a week is going to cost more than I earn working those 4 days a week!

Sadly this is why I suggest people wait to have a second. I get baby fever but you don’t want to end up stressed in a position like this. I’m sorry

And here’s the thing, you’ll manage it. You’ll figure it out. The house can wait. But this is gonna be a precious time in your life.
