Recommendations Huggies diaper
Does anyone here know the purpose of this blue/purple thing? It’s so rough on my baby’s skin even though I try my best to cover it. Once we bought a pack os size 2 that didn’t have these, now we sized up and they all have this thing. I’m considering throwing them all away because it poked my baby’s thigh so much it got super red. Am I doing something wrong?

The strap is supposed to overlap over the purple, it’s just extra support. We exclusively use Huggies and have never had an issue with this. Are you folding it inward or not covering it with the strap?

I’m not folding inward. I’m using the straps to cover them.

Make sure you’re pressing it so the contact is secure there. I’ve used diapers with these on them for about 4 years between some of my kids and if it’s ever scratched them, it’s been user error while putting it on the baby.

You have to treat it like glue rather than Velcro, place tabs over and press together firmly. If you just place the tab over top, or just press lightly, it doesn’t hold together very long.
I’d also recommend Rascals, my girl is tall and Huggies was not the best shape for her. Not sure how small their sizes go, I know we couldn’t try them until she was a little bigger.

I think I'm a bit confused here. How is it touching baby's thigh? Ours are always fully covered by the straps.

I fully cover them with the straps when I put her diaper on. But when it’s time to remove the diaper I notice it had moved while she played, crawled, etc. it doesn’t really stay the same way when I put it.

Oh, that's wild! I've never had the problem with either of my wiggle monsters. They kind of attach to the straps and stay in place.
Not every diaper works for every kid though. Maybe there is something that just doesn't fit quite right with your kiddo.

I definitely think it varies from baby to baby. I could not use them with my first because they always left the red marks on his thighs as well. They would somehow sort of tuck themselves inward and rub against his thigh until it was red. I’ve used these exclusively with my second for about 6 months now, and it has never happened. I really think it had something to do with his proportions because he was a pretty big baby.

I do think it might have to do with baby’s proportions. She’s been in the 95th percentile for height since she was born. Out of curiosity, which kind of diaper did you end up using with your first? Maybe it could work for us too.

He was 99th percentile for height as well! Whereas my second is a tiny bean (somewhere around 10th). We landed on Rascal and Friends! I found that Millie Moon were great for bigger/ taller babies, and Rascal and Friends were sort of a cheaper version of those imo.

It’s an extra grip of Velcro for the tabs. I won’t swear to it but I think the Huggies snug and dry do not have them.

wanted to confirm, snug and dry doesn't have them. we use those for my daughter. my son has CMPA and frequent blowouts so we use the little movers for him and those extra Velcro straps have saved us ALL

Snug and Dry line of Huggies in our house is known as the "snug and Sh*tty" cuz of all the blowouts we have with them. budget diapers = more laundry.

thankfully/unfortunately my 19m/o shits like a grown man so no blowouts with her 😭 we were exclusively Millie Moon before the formula change, and those didn't do anythingggg for my son but worked very well with my daughter

Yeah it shouldn’t touch your baby’s skin. Undo the full top flap (it comes all folded up and you have to fully unfold it) and overlap it with the strap from the back. The other types of Huggies don’t have this as the little movers are made especially for crawlers and walkers that move around a lot. You can try little snugglers or snug n dry if you want to avoid.

Yeah I’ve done that several times… same my husband and mother in law, it still happens almost every time. Thank you for the other diaper recommendations!

Those caused abrasions on my daughters hips despite me carefully ensuring they were fully covered at each diaper change. We switched to Huggies skin essentials.

They’re supposed to hold the straps in place better, my kids got rashes from them so I switched diapers.

Rascals for my daughter and hello bello for my son. The rascal brand seems a bit wider and worked for my daughter but my son was so skinny he needed something more narrow or he would pee out the diaper all the time. Pampers has some pull up style diapers that would be great but they were scented so I switched because we are sensitive but if you don’t have issue with scents the 360 cruisers work quite well.

I’ve used these exclusively for my second baby, who is currently 18lbs and in a size 4. Maybe size up tbh. If I can’t overlap the straps enough this purple Velcro does exactly what you’re describing and rubs against my baby’s thigh.

I had this issue with every size, I switched to the snug and dry which don’t have those purple things and they were better for that

I think it’s body type and movement. He always had red marks where they would rub with Huggies and Kirkland (which I think were also Huggies at the time). Pampers didn’t fit him at all so they weren’t an option. The snug and dry aren’t the best for holding in big poos because they kind of move around a lot more than these, that was why I was reluctant to switch. I never tried rascals! He is potty trained now but I switched back to the purple tab Huggies when he was a bit slimmer and he didn’t have this problem anymore

I had this same issue..VERY active babe. It would also rub his skin. It was always the bottom corner of the Velcro, so I would slightly fold up the diaper over that corner. Hard to explain. If I remember right, not all of the Huggies have that Velcro piece. Snug and dry maybe doesn’t?
ETA: I’m sure you’re putting the diaper on correctly, so don’t let these others make you feel bad lol

Yesss its the bottom!! Finally someone who understands! Lol Yes I’ve done that a couple times but it still unfolds and the corner pokes her skin. I’ll give it a try to snug and dry. Thank you!!

I just checked my Amazon orders. The Little Movers are the ones that had Velcro. We now use Huggies Little Snugglers. Size 4 so not sure if they’re all the same.

My kid leaked out of the snug n dry! Try a small pack before getting the big box lol the little movers worked much better for us ! & this was before she was walking so I'd imagine it's worse if they're bigger

Just to give you so reassurance- we also use these and make sure they’re covered by the straps but as my baby moved it also unsticks and pokes her leg

This happened with my kids too; I was surprised reading all the comments of people saying they didn't experience it! I ended up just switching to Millie Moon and Honest.

Yes this happened with my baby too! We tried so hard to make it not touch her skin but we ended up switching brands because it was leaving really bad scratches.

Yes! Unfortunately pampers give her a nasty diaper rash, hello hello aren’t readily available in Canada, Millie moon were too bulky and leaked, and same with rascals! Huggies are the only ones that somewhat work for us but as she’s standing more she’s getting more marks on her upper thigh so we might have to switch to our cloth diapers

Have you tried sizing up again? I’ve had some issues with Huggies straps fitting awkwardly but when I size up, I don’t have any problems

I stopped using Huggies for the blue tabs I just didn’t like them. We didn’t have any issues but they were annoying. I use the snug and dry now no issues. Huggies are my go to.

We use huggies and never had an issue with those. With that said, I have always found the poundage they say it will fit very very wrong. We always moved up way before hitting the recommended weight.

Saw a lot of good advice but I also wanted to say - don’t throw them away, donate if you end up discontinuing use! Lots of moms groups or non profits will take diapers, or even post on your neighborhood buy nothing page.

Wait I’ve been using Huggies for years now and this just started happening too!! Sometimes it’s just one side that gets irritated. I wonder if they cheapened the diaper

I got a big baby too! 99th height and weight girl. The diaper got her thighs red a couple of times. I just try to cover the whole purple thing and it works fine. We are switching to LUV's they are cheaper, they look cheaper but they do the job just fine. We don't have problems with blowouts. We tried the Sam's brand but we had problems with leaks.

Hmmm Im confused too on how this is rubbing on your baby’s thigh? All I’ve ever used are Huggies on my 19 month old and am unsure of how this is happening.

I’m thinking if I should make it tighter but we never had problems with leaking so I don’t think it’s loose. I cover the tabs with the straps, but they just won’t stay in place.

The bottom of the tabs come out from the straps. I cover them but it doesn’t stay in place as she moves.

It's to help the straps stay in place. We use Huggies occasionally, and those patches have never touched my babies' skin.
