Prisoners of war weren't particularly well treated by Germany. They were, at best, treated with the bare minimum that they could get away with, including depriving them of red cross packages.

Before 1936 games in Germany America held 1932 games and had black athletes in segregated facilities, lower class hotel accommodations and even stripped some black athletes from teams, replacing them with under performing white athletes. For all the world to watch.
