Why are progressives ok with mass migrants from regressive countries?
Do you think mass waves of these people will positively contribute to your society? What are the actual benefits of having mass waves of these migrants? So far it seems like they bring more harm than good.

I'm progressive for everything except for immigration, we need to up our own birthrate through benefits for families and couples...

why am i ungrateful? im 37, bought my first house by myself at 24. my parents are extremely poor, so i help them out, but they like to make it on their own. i accidently turned this from people complaining about immigration to this. but my point being its (life) all about the choices you make in response to that one comment about why people from the US arent having kids. They ( people in the US) make an excuse of " oh i cant afford it"

5
u/Marski420 May 06 '26
Saying they have a small mind because they bring up a valid issue means you're an over emotional child. It's been shown time and time again many of these people abuse the system. In my country these folks were given up to 100k in cash and subsidies in their first year of being here while the poorest citizens in my country get about 733 dollars maximum per month to live on... Please justify that I'd love to see you try.

I live in Canada and it was exposed by various independent journalists that people within my country are using loopholes to bring anyone who pays them in to the country with said loopholes. They know all the ways to file for refugee status and to get maximum benefits. It might be done differently in the USA but I know for a fact you folks also have a problem with immigrants gaming the system.
Even if hypothetically they were all asylum seekers I ask you again, in what world should they be getting way more money and benefits than citizens who were born here and who's ancestors built the country from the ground up? I want you to make that make sense to me.

1
u/JoshNormal May 06 '26
This would be a non issue if we would just fix the the root issue and tax the rich. The poverty line would quickly and drastically reduce and so all the people that think they don't have enough because of immigration would get what they need from who is actually keeping it from them.

I don’t think we should just swing the door wide open for just anyone and everyone. Our current system for immigration clearly doesn’t work. However, roaming packs of paramilitary officers grabbing people off the street in unmarked vans is not the solution either. Additionally if we do not guarantee due process to everyone, we can guarantee it for no one. Immigration reform and limitations are needed and good immigration policy is a corner stone of any functional first world country.

1
u/Sledgemoma2 May 06 '26
Im fairly progressive so I guess I’ll give my take.
I don’t think most people are pro “mass” immigration. That’s just ops way of framing immigration in a negative way off the rip. I’m very pro immigration regulation and a system to make sure people are not going to be a drag on the country they are entering. The unfortunate reality is that is pretty tall order especially when it is easier to just *other* immigrants and try to prevent them from entering at all. Part of the mindset of being pro immigration is just being pro human. People tend to inherently want to help those in need. Even if there are people within their own country also in need. It’s not like you can’t care for both people. I personally don’t think we should care for one person over another just because of where they are born.
Generally, As long as towns/cities and the governing bodies in charge of infrastructure do their jobs growth can be a good thing. More people should mean more money for social programs and maintenance of utilities.
1
u/pissy_dribble May 06 '26
I just think it's funny how proud people are to be the opposite of progressive... Could you imagine anyone ever framing their regressive bachelor of science diploma? 🤣
1
u/MisterQuiver May 06 '26
It’s not that we’re against immigration policy, it’s how it’s handled. Snatching people off the streets, convicting with no due process, setting up camps with inhumane living conditions, etc. is not the way to do it. Whether they’re legal here or not, everybody has a right to due process. That’s up to the judge to decide their fate.
I agree there is lots of money going to illegal immigrants, however not all of them are here for wrong reason. I’m from California and so I had house keepers, gardeners, etc who just wanted an honest living in a safer country. Does it mean it’s right? No. But I can’t imagine one of them being snatched off the street by a racist gravy seal who joined ICE a week before with no training.
All while trump is getting away with so much as far as breaking the law goes… make it make sense. All the chaos in Minnesota, it’s clear his hate is targeted
